Courthouse Fires From Sawdust Waste Fire at Basemen

City Council Meeting Forty Years Ago 1928

City Council met October 18 with Mayor Ferris presiding. Cub Scout Leader Training Offered in Three Counties

Duane Schoening announces a Cub Scout Leader Training Course for all Cub Leaders in Clark, Edgar and Crawford counties. The first United Methodist Church in Robinson hosts sessions on Thursday evenings from 7 00 p m to 8 15 p m with topics including Planning the Cub Program Den Meeting Pack Management Den Operations Webelos Den Operation and Training Den Leader Coach. Drivers License Station to Open Five Days a Week

The Drivers License Examining Station will operate five days a week starting Tuesday October 14. Previously open only on Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday. Two examiners will staff the station as demand rises due to the law requiring every driver to be examined at least once every nine years, increasing annual examinations to about 760 000.

Robbers Return For More At Harper Tire Company

The Harper Tire Company on the south side of the square was broken into Tuesday evening for the second time after an earlier break-in last Thursday. Items stolen include two color TVs two black and white TVs a hi fi system tape recorder record players radios and several tires. The sheriff is investigating.

Thirty three members of the Marshall Woman's Club traveled by chartered bus to Springfield on Monday. The tour covered the Lincoln Home area lunch at Heritage House a guided Capitol Building tour including the Senate Chamber and House of Representatives the governor's office State museum and the Lincoln Tomb.

Obituaries report Thurman Bennett 80 of Marshall died Sunday at Paris Community Hospital after two days as a patient born March 10 1889 in Clark County. Survived by daughter Mary Ellen McCarty and sons John T Bennett and Robert E Bennett, two sisters, five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Also Mary Guinnip 77 formerly of Marshall died in Phoenix Arizona survived by son Joseph Guinnip and daughter Mrs Nicholas Glass, sister Arline Drake and four grandchildren. Glenn R Smitley a Marshall native died Monday in Terre Haute after living in Washington and later at Collett Apartments. married to Faith and survived by daughter Brerene Smitley and grandchild. Nettie Ziegler Power 85 of Marshall died Thursday at Paris Community Hospital survived by son Joseph of Honolulu, Hawaii and sister Mrs Fila Burveese of Detroit with two grandchildren. Clark County's Antique Show and Sale attracted 734 registrants from Illinois Indiana Michigan Wisconsin Ohio Florida and California for a door prize held October 11 12.
