Devonian Oil Well Drilled Near Marshall in Weaver Pool
The Frank Cole oil well on the Frank Cole land in the Weaver pool east of Marshall has reached the Devonian formation with casing set and is awaiting completion. A spudder will move in soon to finish but another Murphys 9 acre site remains unused though staked. In Orange township south of Martinsville a Tarman and Tarman well is drilling on an 80 acre tract with plans for two to three more. Continental Oil prepares to complete a Vern Davison farm well. Illinois Oil & Gas Department officially names all fields and has given Orange township field the West Melrose Pool designation.

Circuit Court in Marshall Sets Sale of Non Divisible Property
Judge Robert F. Cotton presided as Marshall held a short session. In the partition suit Ina Warner Sweitzer vs Lewis Warner and others the commissioners reported the property not susceptible to division and ordered its sale. The master in chancery filed his term report. The November term opens next Monday November 9 with Judge Anderson presiding and the grand jury convening.

Clark County Young Man Begins Anti Aircraft Artillery Training
Pvt. Lardinne L. Leatherman, son of Mr and Mrs Harry Leatherman Martinsville route 2, has started sixteen weeks of basic training in anti aircraft artillery at Fort Bliss Texas. The program covers eight weeks of basic army subjects including infantry drill and marksmanship followed by a field maneuver. The second eight weeks trains on light and medium anti aircraft weapons against airborne targets on the Fort Bliss range. He will graduate at a formal parade and retreat and then await assignment to a permanent anti aircraft artillery unit.

He explains the Armies Operation Santa Claus program and says his battalion has been assigned a Korean village for Christmas. The need is clothing for winter and many village children are clothless. Ray urges local help through Armstrong Church or Fenton Shirley home, with postage money needed. Packages must be shipped by Monday November 9.
