News notes a Paris businessman H B O'Hair purchasing the Paul Kuhn elevator with possession after year start. The item sits among a batch of local notices and social updates including St Louis guests and Grandview visitors.
Marshall red shirts crushed Martinsville 25 to 0 on Martinsville home ground. Findley and Buckner starred for Marshall with McGee, Leitzman, and Combs scoring. Marshall next plays Shelburn at 2 30 pm Saturday. lineup may adjust if Eitel is unable to play. Plans for a women’s physical education class were announced by Miss Kermit Cochran.
H. C. Newcomer general manager and staff completed an annual inspection trip over the division aboard a special eight car train with two observation cars. B. J. Boyle earned a $150 prize for his division from St Elmo to Terre Haute Indiana. The president and board rode a special train Monday as reported by W. W. Ralston agent at Marshall.
Chicago Tribune reports two Butler Bulldogs players Herman Geisert and George Fredenberger receive praise from Harland Rohm. Coach Patsy Clark notes early success with Butler 1386 to 83 in total season scores and a 25 to 6 win over DePauw.
Committees were appointed at the Woman's Club meeting Tuesday evening in the courthouse. Mrs. Charles Ridgley presided. New chairmen named include Mrs. R. A. Mitchell child welfare Mrs. C. F. Behner by laws Mrs. Clark S. Thomas program and Mrs. E. J. Giffel literature. Civic chairmanship not yet filled. Mrs. Behner reported on the Cham paign group meeting. By laws and constitution were laid on the table for a second reading. A home economics demonstration is planned with the Central Illinois Public Service Company of Springfield.
Judge Jean Gard confirmed the North Seventh street paving assessment list on Thursday October 27 with an estimated total cost of 19940. A contract for paving will be let soon. The South Fifth street assessment was also confirmed with an estimated cost of 18643.
The IHC short course in Marshall presented by local businessmen and sponsored by International Harvester Company drew large crowds Monday and Tuesday at the Pythian Theatre. A noon lunch for 800 farmers and families was served, with lectures on household work and farm problems. Dan Baggs of Wabash township won a registered call on Tuesday afternoon.
The Wabash Valley Telephone on Tuesday finished copper line installation to Martinsville for toll service. Previously an iron circuit handled toll calls until now.
A small fire broke out Thursday at the Black Hotel around 5 30 pm. Mr Black discovered the blaze in his and Mrs Black’s bedroom drawer area. Fire destroyed part of the dresser and wall. cause is undetermined as the Marshall fire department, hampered by smoke, couldn’t enter the house and fought the fire from outside.
Miss Oral Graham of Dennison was fined five dollars and costs totaling nine dollars and forty cents in Squire Thomas Craig's court on Wednesday for assault and battery on Miss Grace Kirby of Dennison. Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Ross and daughter of Robinson spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. O. H. Rolison then drove to Vandalia to visit Mrs. Rollsor's daughter, Mrs. Martin Enck, and family.
Mrs. E L Taylor chairs the annual Red Cross drive set for November 11 to 24 with four Marshall sections and designated chairmen. Red Cross Sunday is November 13 as clergy discuss the work, followed by a citywide door to door canvass starting November 14 to boost memberships.
A list of circuit court actions includes Standard Oil Company against John Wieland on assumpsit, United States Rubber Company against Albert Sockler doing business as Sockler Garage, and Thomas J. Frantz versus The Pennsylvania Railroad Company. Foreclosures involve S. 8. Sidwell versus Henry and Ethel Rhoads with Casey Illinois Loan and Building Association, Claude Fox and Pearl Weir Fox versus Ruby Liffick and others, and John Weir versus J E Jackson and related parties. Also Jennie McNary as administratrix versus Martinsville Telephone Company and Cornelia McNary, Fred McNary, and F C McNary on bill.
Jacob Godden of Marshall is named Maintenance Patrolman to maintain paved roads from Marshall. He fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Justin Harlan.

The Clarksville Community School Fair will be held Thursday November 10 at the Clarksville school. Pearley Babcock of Spiketown teaches there. Fifteen schools with 300 pupils attend including Rabbit Ridge Pleasant Grove Pikes Peak Mozart Clarksville Germany East Liberty West Liberty Green Moss Blue Grass Kelly Bartmags Spiketown Washington and Cottonwood. The all day event features speaking and music with 100 prize dollars awarded for farm products school work cooking and fancy work.
