The opening match on Ohio Oil Co courts yesterday featured Robinson as host. Robinson’s Bell and Brown beat local Kiplinger and Hodge 4-6 6-2 6-4, then lost 6-4 4-6 to Smith and Jolly. A rain stoppage affected the stall game. Mason and Caldwell of Robinson lost 3-6 4-6 to Smith and Jolly and won 6-4 6-4 against Hodge and Kiplinger. A rematch between the clubs will be held soon in Robinson.

Commencement Week Begins With High School Play at Pythian Theatre
The week opens with a Friday 8 p.m. performance of The Merchant of Venice Up to Date at the Pythian Theatre. Tickets cost 25 35 and 60 cents and are on sale at Kelfers. A veterans day tribute observed fifty years after. The Marshall Band led ceremonies at Catholic cemetery with a brief service by Fr Healey. In the afternoon Hon Arthur Pooran delivered an extensive address praising northern and southern bravery and calling for arbitration and peace. The day closed with a cemetery procession and decorations.

Martinsville Pioneer Dies at 81 After Long Farm Career
Obituary notes the death of Bil Cook of Martinsville born October 2, 1829 in Rush County Indiana who died May 27, 1911 aged 81 years 7 months 25 days. He married Martha Jane Jones January 31 1850 and had ten children eight living. Surviving children include John Chas FR M Alonzo Mrs Carson Johnson Mrs Dan Ruppert Ed George and Mrs Emma Keller with 25 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. He moved to the county in 1863 and farmed nearby until recent years. Funeral services were held at M E Church. Rev Ei and Rev Mr officiated.
