The Rev. Dr. Titus Lowe and Dr. George R. Grose were elected bishops of the Methodist Church by the general conference in Springfield Illinois on May 23. Lowe received 594 votes and Grose 564 with 551 needed for victory.

Booze found on witness in Attorney Jones case
Cal Morgan late of Terre Haute, a star witness in defense of State's Attorney Charles T. Jones, was arrested in Robinson for liquor law violation after five gallons of white mule were found in his car. George Phillips, present, was released for lack of evidence. Morgan pled guilty in county court and jailed for failing to pay a $200 fine.

Boys Have Novel Experience Friday
George Lindley and Gene Mattis pupils of Miss Verna Finkbiner of the Ohio school south of Marshall had a novel graduation day. Gene Mattis walked eleven miles to Marshall with his younger brother, spent the night with grandparents, then rode with a classmate to the county commencement where Gene earned his eighth grade diploma. After the exercises a storm trapped them in mud near Koppler land and mill creek. two diplomas and a scholarship were found in the dirt but later recovered by Alvis Lindley who returned them to the home.

A large crowd attended a three day Ku Klux Klan parade and entertainment in Klantauqua with events staged at the court room until a tent arrived. Harold Frazer Company provided Tuesday entertainment with Mrs. Carter and Bob Evans speaking. Gypsy Serenaders and Rev Copran performed Wednesday. Bidwell Rice Company acted Thursday with Mrs. McGhee and Chas Palmer giving addresses.

Auto Wreck Near Marshall Injures Danville Family
A car carrying Andrew Eddy his wife and several others from Danville and Terre Haute turned over east of Marshall near the Will Cork residence. Mrs Eddy suffered back and neck injuries with cuts and bruises. others were cut or bruised but none seriously. The large touring car caught fire and was completely wrecked.

Herrin Hosts Southern Illinois Editors at Park Opening

State President to Hold Conference Meeting in Casey

Judge Paul Lauher presided in Marshall on Monday to decide the election contest between Democrat Robert Prewett and Independent Robert McGleary for Douglas township highway commissioner. The final tally favored McGleary with 81 votes to Prewett’s 76, adjusting the earlier counts of 81 for McGleary and 79 for Prewett.

Recent Deaths Mrs Walter Adams 79 in Marshall Area
Mrs Walter Adams 79 died after several days of illness. Born in Lowden County Virginia in 1845 she lived near Marshall most of her life and recently in the city. Survived by three sons Clyde and James Adams of Wabash township and Joseph of Marshall, a brother J T Adams of Pittsburgh and a sister Mrs Annie Mathews of Marshall plus five grandchildren. Funeral Sunday at 2 pm with Rev D T Black officiating and burial in Livingston cemetery. Mrs Charles Berner 63 died at home south of town Tuesday morning at 2 30. Funeral Thursday at 2 30 with interment in Zion cemetery.
