The State of Michigan debates restoring capital punishment with lawmakers split on a death penalty, opposing the idea of an electric chair. Word reached Marshall that B H W Arford class of 1927 at the University of Timols was initiated into the Sigma Delta Sigma honorary educational fraternity. He is the son of Mr and Mrs B K Arford of Marshall and has been appointed superintendent of schools in Princeville Illinois for the next school year.
A union memorial day service will be held Sunday at 10 45 in the Congregational church with Rev G G Ross giving the address. In the evening the high school baccalaureate will be in the Methodist church with the two churches uniting for the service led by Rev Howard Leach.
Members of G A R and Clark county Post 90 American Legion will attend the Memorial day sermon at the Congregational church at 10 45 Sunday led by Rev G G Ross. On Monday a 15 pm assembly at Post Hall then a 2 pm march to Protestant cemetery led by Marshall Chamber of Commerce Band. A 2 30 pm program includes song America invocation by Rev Howard Leach selection by Brights male chorus address Yesterday Today Tomorrow by I D Taubeneck salute by post firing squad taps and retreat at court house square. Taubeneck, a Marshall native and former student and teacher, will speak and plans to teach at Illinois State Normal University next autumn.
A farm and town driven national straw poll by Publishers Autocaster Service shows President Coolidge leading the Republican field with 87 176 votes and Alfred Smith top Democrat hopefuls with 53 751 first choice votes While Lowden Dawes Reed and McAdoo show notable second choice strength the results suggest potential convention developments and cross party dynamics ahead of 1928.
Miss Vivian Sullins directs the Senior class and Thalian society in the three act farce It Pays to Advertise at the Pythian theater on May 30 and 31. The cast features Sam Prevo, Walter Booth, Ruth Carpenter, and a list of HS talent with roles including Rodney Martin and the stenographer.

Miss Myrtle Leggett and Walter Spencer of Marshall were united in marriage at Paris on Monday. Mrs. Spencer is the daughter of Mrs. Alva Leggett and the groom is the son of Brad Spencer.
The Ladies of the D. A. R. and the Auxiliary of the American Legion will make bouquets Sunday afternoon in preparation for Decoration Day. Anyone with flowers should bring them to City Hall by Sunday morning.

Floyd Stout 24 and John Haken 48, both of Palestine, suffered fatal and serious injuries when a Dodge coupe driven by Huken left the road east of Marshall and collided with C. E. Cochran of Columbus Ohio. Cochran and his wife were treated for facial injuries. A third vehicle followed and went into a ditch. its driver was not identified and no injuries were reported.
