Circuit Court Friday session in Marshall recalls 1945 cheating case
Judge Bristow presided in Marshall Friday last week. Elmer Lee Wakefield, 40, pleaded guilty to robbing James Kammacher at the home of Harry Guinnip near Marshall on December 12, 1945, and received a sentence of one year to one year and one month in Menard penitentiary. Sheriff Perisho and Johnnie Hutchings transported him to start serving time. The court also sustained objections to a survey in the Theron Murphy vs Elmer Clough case establishing the division line. Margaret Troxel vs Ben Troxel resulted in a decree for separate maintenance after default by the defendant. Loy Finney and others vs Marshall R. Rhoads, suit dismissed.

In the Marshall field drilling continues with wells below 1800 feet near Joe Stave and the Murphy farm as crews chase lost tools. A new locating on the Liffick sisters land offsets the Murphy well while activity grows. A nearby well drills near Farrell Station in Edgar county and another on John M Arthurs farm west of Elbridge field. Harry Whitson aged 61 died suddenly Thursday morning at the home of Mrs. Lena Eitel on Plum street Marshall after returning from Terre Haute where he had hospital treatment for an injured knee. An inquiry by Moore Funeral Home found death from natural causes. Funeral services are set for Saturday at 2 00 p m at Moore Funeral Home with Rev Eugene Stauffer. burial in Livingston Cemetery conducted by the Masonic Lodge. Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Professor L. W. Williams, 68, former Marshall High School superintendent, died suddenly Monday while en route to the university where he had taught since 1916. He is survived by his widow Eileen and three children. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at University Place Christian Church with Masonic rites by Western Star Lodge No. 240. Burial followed at Woodlawn Cemetery, Champaign.

Harold Ellshoff Transferred to San Diego California
Harold Ellshoff son of Earl and Mrs. Ellshoff Marshall. He finished work in the Washington DC school of music and is sent with nine others to the San Diego Naval Base to join the band. He sang with the school chorus at the Cherry Blossom Festival and appeared on television with the concert band honoring the Chilean president.
