Everett German, employed at the Standard Oil station in Marshall, resigned Tuesday to accept work in Chicago. Joe Turman succeeded him, starting duties Wednesday at the Marshall location.
Charles Tres, deputy county clerk, completed varnishing the county clerk’s office at the courthouse. All woodwork, tables, desks, and chairs were refinished.
About 600 people attended the May festival on the high school campus. Dorothea Shickel and Winona Hughes directed the pageant The Spirit of Spring featuring 309 pupils. Theron Dewey played Father Time with the four seasons portrayed by Ettamae Mitchell Louise Foley Ednabelle Carpenter and Virginia Prevo, who crowned Spring. Folk dances represented various countries as the Maypole winding closed the program.
About 240 men and boys attended the father and son banquet Monday evening at 6 30 as part of the boys week program. The banquet was served by ladies of four churches. Toastmaster Harry B Potter introduced the event. Walter Booth spoke on The Boy and Prof J R Colbert on The Father. Dr Earl M Ellsworth of Terre Haute Methodist church gave an address.
John P. Downey of Casey died Tuesday at his home. Infant child of Virgil Remlinger of Wabash died Monday. Samuel T. Irwin, 62, died Thursday at his Marshall home with services held Sunday. William Swisher, 72, of Wabash township died Monday. burial in New Goshen. Mrs Foster Whitlock, 24, of West Union died after an operation in Paris hospital. funeral Wednesday. Surviving relatives listed for Downey, Irwin, Swisher and Whitlock include spouses and children.
The Bartlett family thanks neighbors and friends for kindness and for the beautiful floral offerings received after their loss.

The second gatashot historical recital by older pupils of Mrs Velma Sullins Thomas was at the high school Tuesday evening. It featured German classic composers of the 17th and 18th centuries with Miss Martha Wilbur performing four opera selections. Participants include Frank Mitchell Lois Colbert Rebecca Taylor Harold Stover Mary Garwood George Mitchell Barbara Bell May Lichtenberger Joy Lichtenberger Elizabeth Millhouse Jane Clark Marie Taylor Ettamae Mitchell E dean Thompson Rosalie Sinclair. In two weeks a Norwegian music recital by Greig will follow and on June first the younger class will present the Junior recital.
Fred B. Keifer states several teachers hired last Wednesday night by the high school board received complimentary votes since two had already submitted resignations before the meeting. Resignations listed include Eva Burkhart May Blackburn Martha Wilbur Mamie Jones Miriam Brewster and Vivian Sullins. New hires include J. R. Hornbrook Joe Connelly B F Engleman Ward LaRue Harry Findley and Dorothea Rose Shickel.
The Tri-County Undertakers Association held a 6:30 dinner at the American Cafe and an after meeting at the National Dixie Hotel with Rev. Howard Leach speaking on the link between undertakers and ministers. Members planned attendance at the June state meeting in Danville.
Hedrick of Compton woke to find a chloroform soaked handkerchief on his bed and a broken open window. Police tracked shoeprints in the garden outside his window as detectives suspect a burglary motive after he had cashed two pay checks.
Jasper F Neff 21 to Dorothy J Henderson 18 both of Terre Haute receive a marriage license. Virgil L Ray 34 of Toledo to Ora Sanderson 22 of Serna await license. Thomas W Bond 35 of Terre Haute to Clara B Mitchell 39 of Greenup obtain licenses.
Ben Fawley has purchased the Marshall Transfer from partner Clay Wallace and will operate the business solo. The Marshall council held a special meeting Tuesday to pass a new dog ordinance.
Mayor John McCauley proclaims Monday May 30 1927 a legal holiday in Marshall urging all business houses to close to observe Memorial Day with Grand Army of the Republic and American Legion programs honoring those who served and died for freedom.
Commercial students from Marshall township high school dominated the district contest at Casey winning two firsts three seconds and four thirds among twelve schools. The first year shorthand team of Virginia Knipe June Metz and Ruth Carpenter advances to the state finals at Normal May 21 with top records including a perfect 100 by Knipe and multiple individual and team placements across shorthand typing and bookkeeping events.

Dave Frances broke his right leg below the knee Tuesday at his home in Wabash township while working on a road with a scraper. A parts failure caused the scraper to swing and strike him.
At Armstrong Methodist Church the annual District No. 1 Sunday school convention elected new officers for the coming year. President Harry D. Setzer and others including R. F. Henderson, Miss Bertha Beltz, Herman Saiter, Ada Montgomery, Fred Geisert, Ben F. Setzer, Mrs. Sarah Weaver, and Mrs. Ross Pine were named for various posts. The offering totaled 40.33 with subscriptions.
Marshall to see a new Masonic temple with a committee ordered to prepare detailed plans. The lodge schedules third degree work on May 18 and second degree work on May 20.
