The Marshall Agriculture Club sent members to Newton for the contest with limited prep time. Poultry judging included Oscar Kirchner and Carl Lucan. grain judging had Eugene Buckner and Russell Abel. fat stock and dairy judging featured Wendall Buckner, Russell Shotts, and Glenn Tabscott. About 16 schools competed. final results not yet announced. Prof Robert E Smith of Illinois University served as judge.
On Monday morning May 4 Mr Garvey presented Creal Stout with her cheerleader letter for this year and the letter for last year which was missed. He also presented Milton Dickens Louise Alford Augusta ONeal Mary Stephenson Eleanor Snavely and George Taubeneck with their letters from last year’s debating team that were overlooked at year end.
An interstate band contest sits in Champaign this week as high schools observe international boys week. Harrison High Chicago beat McKenley High in a debate on foreign investments. Junior Phi Beta Kappa is installed in many high schools, electing members at graduation for scholarship and leadership.
The Marshall Boy Scouts lost to Martinsville by a wide margin in a dual track meet. Henley led Martinsville with three firsts, while Paul Barker was Marshall’s lone first, as the meet featured standout performances and a tight team battle.
The Sixteenth Annual Interscholastic Oratorial Contest at Eastern Illinois Teachers College in Charleston saw Marshall's first participation. Elizabeth Rhoads won poetry, Milton Sickens won oration, and Dorothy Evans won dramatic reading, with Mildred Craig in humor.
Announcement shows trophies for the County Meet to be awarded May 9. Sweepstakes trophy is a silver shield on mahogany valued at twenty five dollars, awarded to the school with the most combined points in literary music and track and field. Other shields honor top chorus and relay teams.
