Sheriff John A. Ryan of Cumberland County shot J William Grubb of Toledo when Grubb refused a search for liquor and allegedly reached for a weapon. Grubb died the next day. the coroner's jury exonerated the sheriff.

Four students injured when car hits fallen tree on North Sixth
Four high school students Augusta O Nea l Irene Carpenter Leon Davison and Milton Dickens were hurt when their car collided with a tree that had fallen across North Sixth street earlier in the afternoon. Dickens suffered a cut lip and glass cuts while Davison and Carpenter sustained head and tooth injuries. The group was treated by Dr R A Mitchell then sent home as the wrecked car was described as nearly destroyed.
