Rhineland Farming Seen by a Young Marshall Doughboy
Corporal Dan W LeGore of Marshall now with the army in France describes farm life on both sides of the Rhine for Farm Life. He notes crowded French villages with small plots 25 to 300 acres often owned by large landowners. Homes are stone with kitchens, bedrooms, and a central fireplace. Villages feature churches, stores, a bakery, a town hall and small cafes. French farming emphasizes manure piles as wealth indicators, crude plow methods, two-wheeled carts, and animals driven to pasture.
