Lee Hardway and Miss Ethel Carper wed Sunday at the bride’s parents home 20 miles south of Martinsville. Rev G A Mathis of Casey officiated in the presence of a small circle of relatives. The couple will reside on a farm south of Martinsville.
A steel tomahawk found by Luther Medley last week while digging a grave in Livingston cemetery is shown at the City Drug Store exhibition. The elaborate artifact likely belonged to an Indian dignitary. the site has yielded numerous Indian relics and bones.
Charles Stuck of Oliver narrowly escaped a freight train on the Big Four line last Friday. The locomotive overtook him as he stepped off to avoid a muddy spot, dislocating a shoulder, breaking a rib, and causing general bruising.
In Martinsville township last Saturday the Republican ticket won the offices of Supervisor W A Byram, Assessor Jacob Martz, Town Clerk Bert Cook, and Collector Carl Ballard. The Democratic ticket won Supervisor Howard Taggart, Assessor S A Taggart, Town Clerk Joe Tate, and Collector Homer Snyder.
Frosts and floods killed fully one third of Illinois wheat in the winter. White County suffered the heaviest losses with about 30 percent frozen out and 60 percent swept away by floods, according to B M Davison, secretary of the State Board of Agriculture.
Rebecca McClain born August 25 1838 in Shelby County Indiana died February 23 at her daughter Mrs Oliver Ludingtons home in Dudley She was first married to A J Knight in 1859 who died 1865 They had six children one survivor Mrs Ludington She married Thomas McCutcheon in 1869 and had four children Mrs P A Vaughn of Marshall Mrs J C Rucker of Mono Lake California Clark of Rockford Iowa and Samuel She attended the M E church and is survived by two brothers Neal of Auburn and W A of Glenayre and one sister Mrs Mary Mills of Anderson Also 22 grandchildren 11 great grandchildren and many other relatives Funeral services were held at the Christian church in Dudley with interment Gill Cemetery.
The American Girls will present a rare entertainment in Terre Haute on Wednesday March 8 with live music and readings. Tickets go on sale at Kelfer’s store Saturday March 4 with main floor 76 cents balcony 50 cents. Season tickets are free. The program features violin cornet piano clarinet saxophone drums and vocal numbers showing six periods of American girlhood in period costumes including the Indian maiden colonial girl and today’s American girl. The show ends with a scene depicting the coupling of the first American boxing role.
On March 9 the Clark County Medical Society hosts a Better Babies contest open to all county children from 12 to 48 months. It aims to improve physical and mental development through examination and prizes, with divisions 12-24 25-36 and 37-48 months. Arnold Paul Miller died at age 1 year 2 months 13 days. Born Dec 13 1914 to Rudolph and Mary Miller, he brought joy to the family before passing Feb 26 1916. He was in Zion Sunday school Cradle Roll. Funeral sermon by Rev Leo J Ehrhardt. Burial in Zion cemetery.
A man in a Studebaker parked at Pulvers garage was later claimed by two men from Terre Haute as the stolen vehicle. The original owner fled, and officers are searching for the suspect as the Herald goes to press.
At the Danville Republican congressional convention, W. H. Drewell of Westfield was chosen as a district delegate to the national convention. Other delegates include John H. Harrison of Danville, Thomas G. Vennum of Watseka, and D. W. Rhodes of Toledo.

A barn at Andy Lowrys near Auburn was destroyed by fire last Thursday. The blaze consumed hay and a wagon with harnesses, and two horses were severely burned. Insurance fully covered the loss.
Fred Lindsey a 16 year old from Casey was jailed Saturday awaiting grand jury action on burglary charges. He implicated fellow youth Harry Kennedy in the theft. Kennedy was arrested yesterday and to have a hearing this afternoon.
On Saturday last at Terre Haute the marriage of Charles Riggs of Terre Haute and Miss Emma Vaughn of Marshall occurred. The groom is son of Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Riggs and the bride daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P. A Vaughn. The couple will begin housekeeping soon near Terre Haute.
The Board of Local Improvements met Monday and recommended a sanitary and drainage sewer with minimal opposition. It runs from north Michigan avenue at Spruce street south to Ash then east to 12th, south to Beech, east to 14th and south to Plum, with spurs from Michigan to 8th and from Beech to Ash, connecting to the east side outlet at 14th street.

William Dittmer attacks Henry Clint over a claimed World War I prediction about a six week war with Germany. He cites a June 16 1915 Herald piece under Clint’s signature and accuses Clint of lying, defending Allied propaganda and challenging Clint’s race and motives.
The Evangelical Association lists Sunday morning preaching at Immanuel Grand Turn church and Sunday evening at Zion Big Creek church.
