Old Soldier William Harlan Dies After War Wounds
William A. Harlan, a well known citizen, died suddenly last Friday afternoon after heart disease. He served in the 21st Illinois Infantry from Fort Sumpter to Shiloh and Stone River, where he was severely wounded. He was born in Marshall on April 8, 1840 and married Clara Payne in 1869. Funeral services were held Monday at Fourth and Locust streets, Rev James Ryan officiating. He leaves three brothers Edwin Wilson and John and a host of friends.
