Clark County Fair officials plan a large fireworks display starting at 9 00 p m Friday July 4 with no admission. The display is possible thanks to cooperation from Clark County Post 90 of the American Legion City of Marshall First National Bank and Dulaney National Bank. Gates open 8 30 p m and the Fair Queen contest starts at 6 p m Monday followed by the Cavalcade of Thrills an eight girl Mustang auto show. The annual night horse racing program runs Tuesday through Friday July 4 ending with a Western Horse Show and tractor pulling contest in the evening.

Marshall Elementary School fifth and sixth graders participated in the AAPHER Youth Fitness program. Students Jeff Athey Pam Farris Nancy Gmelich Tracey Larsen and Martin Pellum earned Presidential Physical Fitness Awards for scoring at or above the 85th percentile on all seven items. Additional honorees earned merit and achievement emblems for 80th and 50th percentile marks. A second organization meeting led by the Marshall Chamber of Commerce discussed securing medical facilities for Marshall and Carth county with a steering committee to coordinate with med professors and state officials.
