Pfc Dennis Clatfelter 20 son of Mrs Javena Murphy and the late William Latfelter died Thursday at Walter Reed Hospital Washington DC after nearly two months as a patient wounded in Vietnam. He was a 1966 Marshall High School graduate. Survived by his mother and stepfather Mr and Mrs Guy Murphy Springfield Illinois. one sister Mrs Harvey Judy Langston Marshall. three brothers Thomas Richard and Terry Springfield. one step-brother Mike Murphy US Army. two step-sisters Sue Murphy Cory Indiana and Ann Bridgewater Brazil Indiana. Funeral services were held Monday at Moore Funeral Home at 230 with Rev Robert Litteral. burial Marshall Cemetery with full military rites.

New band stand under construction in court house lawn area
In 1929 work began on a Chinese pagoda style band stand to seat about fifty musicians. Charles Kirchner Construction Co won the contract, with cost around 1600 dollars and 700 to 800 already raised. The site is the northeast corner of the courthouse lawn and the structure will include a concrete floor, trap door, and storage under seating.

Clark County Fair officials plan a 1969 event starting Monday afternoon June 30 with baton preliminaries at 1 30 and the Miss Clark County Fair 1969 queen contest at 6. Ten contestants compete for the title as Sherri Perisho of Martinsville crowns the 1968 winner. An all girl Auto Dare Devil Cavalcade of Thrills follows at 8 featuring seven stunt drivers in Mustang convertibles. The 21st annual night horse racing runs July 1 through July 4, with a $1500 fireworks display at 9 pm on July 4 and a tractor pull finale July 5 season tickets available.

Marshall police officer Joe Ryan chased a Mercury Station Wagon carrying three youths from Terre Haute into Marshall. The trio ages 20 and 17 attempted to play chicken with a northbound truck driver before being stopped. The suspects admitted stealing the car in Terre Haute at midnight and are in county jail.
