Congress to convene in October to handle flood disaster

The President plans a special October session of Congress to address the Mississippi flood disaster and prevention. Clark County Board of Review reconvened with Ottie Davison as chairman Tom Craig and W O Slusser as members. Leon Dodd of Melrose was appointed clerk. Judge John H. Marshall Dies in Chicago Hotel

Judge John H. Marshall of Charleston, a Republican leader and long time Fifth Judicial District circuit judge, died suddenly in the Palmer House Chicago after heart trouble. Born January 13 1864 he served as state's attorney and Eastern Illinois Teachers College trustee before his 1915 election to the bench and his recent re election for a third term.

Marshall Masonic Lodge to Build Temple in Marshall

The Marshall Masonic Temple Association purchased the Ohio Oil Company lots on South Sixth street to erect a two story temple with a main lodge room on the second floor a banquet hall and kitchens. Leonard Striebe of Danville chosen as architect. Also court notices list estate actions including guardianships inventory filings wills and distributions with hearings and adjustments scheduled through August and September. The people versus Albertus Bush on a non support charge is held to bail at $1000 until September term.

Mothers and Daughters Banquet At Methodist Church

About 170 attendees enjoyed a Mothers and Daughters banquet at the Methodist church on Tuesday night at 6 30. The Ladies Aid organized the meal served by church boys with Brights Orchestra providing music. Toastmistress was Mrs C V Taubeneck while Mrs Charles Metz gave thanks. Mrs Wm Knipe read the will and Eleanor Snavely toasted mothers. Mrs Howard Leach responded to daughters and Mrs A C Alexander of Mattoon gave the address. Mary Johnson and her mother sang a duet and Mrs Ben T Baird gave the benediction.

Sheriff Foncannon Nabs Local Boys Friday

Eugene Malloy Walter Booth and Sam Prevo Jr were arrested Friday night in Terre Haute by Sheriff Ray Foncannon for lacking car license proof and failing to show license application receipts. The boys were jailed overnight, then released after Indiana state police intervened and their families retrieved them.
