A historical account describes the Ocean Hell ship used for penal transport. It details its 589 tonnage, 136 foot length, three decks with submerged cells, and bloodless punishments that confined up to 240 convicts in brutal, airless holds.
A young girl eight years old, daughter of B Walls, east of Livinston, was injured when a cow charged after her calf frightened, knocking her down and tearing her right ear with a horn. The scene described as chaotic, with the cow repeatedly goring the child before help arrived.
The county medical society in augurates a drive to open a Marshall hospital open to all physicians in the county. The facility would serve patients locally, sparing trips to Terre Haute and other cities and reducing expense and transport risks.
Baltimore pair E G Waters and W A Perry travel on a self funded leisure tour across the continent toward San Francisco. They describe themselves as Boy Scouts and intend to see the country for pleasure without favors or expenses from others.
Real estate transfers listed including Martha L. Graham to Wilber Moore for 3% acres, payment amounts around 800, and Parker to Frank Howe for a lot. Names such as Hutchinson Sherman and Casey appear with scattered ad references and parcel notes.

Charles Beasley a 19 year old from near West Union drowned while swimming in a stream on Harry Dolson's farm. He disappeared after diving into the deep pool and was found entangled in brush. rescuers and Coroner Haslitt failed to revive him. The body was buried in Zeigler cemetery on Friday.
Mrs Johanna Finkbiner died at her daughter Mrs Henry Berner's home Sunday at 75 years 5 months 17 days Funeral services were at Big Creek Evangelical Association Church led by Rev L J Ehrhardt and Rev D H Rupp She was born December 27 1838 in Guendelbach Württemberg Germany came to America in 1856 and settled in Clark County She married John M Finkbiner April 6 1857 who died March 28 1878 They had eight children four survived with William A Finkbiner Mrs Henry Berner Mrs Harry Dolson and Mrs R J Dickerson plus 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren She had two brothers and three sisters in Germany and two brothers in America
The Marshall ministers formed a ministerial association with President Reverend D. D. Burt and other officers. They planned July and August Sunday evening union services, sought permission to use the courthouse lawn, and urged July as a Sunday school field day with a parade. A committee was named to meet business leaders on the plan.
A 17 year old boy was held for stealing about 25 dollars from the C H I & D railway office at Casey. He entered as the agent stepped out on an errand and opened the money drawer with others in the waiting room watching. He started east and was caught near Martinsville. The stolen money was recovered.
Alta Mattis filed for separate maintenance against Samuel Mattis of Melrose township yesterday alleging habitual cruelty since their 1908 marriage. She says he threatened to harm her on several occasions and notes they have no children.
A community drive called Will Observe the Fourth aims to stage a July Fourth event in Marshall. The plan involves business leaders, Sunday schools, and the boy scouts. A meeting at the courthouse Friday evening seeks to finish arrangements and invites all interesados to attend.
Sunday School workers gather at McClure church in Douglas township on June 21 starting 10 a m with Devotional and Welcome remarks by Mrs Lou Reynolds and Mrs Lola Askins followed by sessions on Bible study and teacher training. An offering for county work will be taken. Mrs Lou Reynolds presides with Mrs Lola Askins as secretary.
The States biggest oil well No 5 on the Michael Murphy farm near St Francisville was completed Monday around 1 pm. It gushed at 150 barrels per hour after penetrating 1825 feet into the Mc Closkey sand, surpassing the former state record held by No 1 on the same lease. The green oil from both wells is regarded as top grade.
Former residents plan a Marshall home-coming in the fall and many prepare to attend. Local preparations lag, and the moment for action is now. Businessmen are urged to organize efforts to make the event a success at minimal cost.
Evangelical Association notes Sunday Children’s Day exercises at the Marshall church were a grand success. The missionary collection totaled $6.25 plus $27.80 from Grand Turn and $16.88 from Big Greek, making $50.43. Charles Leseure proprietor of The Hub pressings club amuses patrons with a growing menagerie. His yard holds ducks geese goats dogs cats a lamb and other creatures. He recently received two alligators from a Florida visitor and added nine fine Scotch Collie pups while negotiating for a cub bear.
A third oil well at the Basometer Farm east of the city struck a strong flow of salt water at 781 feet. Workers, including Ww. Magon Co., abandoned the test they had hoped would yield oil. They are not yet ready to give up the fight.
The Clark County Medical Society met in the courthouse last Thursday with Drs. Burnside Mitchell McCullough Pearce Ryerson Prewett Johnson Marlow Weir C Bradley Haslitt Duncan and visitor Dr. Buckmaster of Effingham present. Buckmaster spoke on Blood Pressure and its Significance noting normal around 125 and detailing causes symptoms and risks.
Mrs William Harrold hosted the Walter Burdick Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution from Marshall at 1106 South Seventh Street Terre Haute. Guests included Dr Cora L Eastman of Rock Island Illinois and nine members with Walter Burdick lineage.
Westfield College will not merge with another institution. Trustees decide to join forces with Westfield High School to offer only the first two years of college work. An executive committee of ten will oversee immediate needs and restore operation.

The state supreme court on Saturday ruled the new woman suffrage law constitutional, a vote split along party lines with four Republican justices upholding and three Democratic justices dissents. The decision cites Plumer vs Yost, endorses the last election in which many saloons closed due to women voters, and signals a campaign for a constitutional amendment to grant full suffrage.
West Union I O O F held memorial services Sunday at the Baptist church led by Rev. J C Craig of Marshall. The procession formed at 10 36 from the lodge hall to the church while Mr Craig spoke on 1 Corinthians 13 detailing the order’s near century rise to 100000 members in Illinois and its moral and financial benefits including sick and funeral aid.
The State and International Sunday School Convention in Chicago from June 22 to 30 promises the largest assembly of Sunday school workers yet, with at least 5000 men and 500 bands. Organizers urge every church and school to participate, contact county secretaries Jerry Ishler or L. B. Anderson if interested. In a separate court case, George Matkins was awarded for newspapers misdelivered or used without payment, per Justice Cleaver.
