Fragmentary report depicts an oiling procedure with gasoline poured near a gas pipe and a water shed. It mentions hauling heavy loads and refers to animals and rollers in a Southern California setting. Unclear names or dates are present.
The Sunday School Convention will be held at Armstrong Church on Sunday June 18 beginning 9:30 AM and ending 4:30 PM with prayer and praise service. Rev. Mr. Ambjer song by school. Sessions include lessons by Ruth Setzer and Rev. Mr. Rupp with talks by township president Huston Short. An offering will be taken for the county work.
John Klinger born February 27 1825 in Bavaria died aged 86 years 3 months 12 days. He came to America at 25, settled near the city, and lived on a farm for many years. Twice married first to Reginald Kuhn leaving two children Lucy and George. second to Margaret Ell producing John and Anna Remlinger. He was a devoted Evangelical Association member. funeral led by Rev I H Griessmer at Bvan Releal church, with many attendees, and burial in Marshall cemetery.
Readable fragments describe Martha An HAI Era born around January 10 1880 in Zin Clark Seo county. She suffered mental illness for ten years and left a legacy of reading and Sunday school. Funeral held at William Morgan's with Rev E officiating, mourners include father mother one valued relative and two half sisters.
Charles Colvin of West Union, 42, was jailed after a young girl, eleven, accused him of coaxing her into weeds beside a railroad track. A Big Four section crew discovered them. Colvin released the girl and tried to hide. Chief Watts arrested him and he was committed to jail on the charge reported by the Robinson Argus.
Commencement exercises at Marshall Township High School in the Pythian Theatre drew a large audience. Eighteen graduates attended with diplomas awarded after songs by the Treble Clef Club, a male quartet, and remarks by Rev. Smith of Chicago. A senior banquet followed in the Knights of Pythias hall with Italian musicians providing music.
Arthur Pearce fell into Mill Creek near Walnut Prairie and was dragged out by friends in an unconscious state. He was resuscitated after extensive efforts. Local responders report he survived the incident with help from bystanders.
Mrs. Lewis Hollingsworth organized a large surprise at her home for her husband’s 74th birthday. About 150 relatives attended, with decorations of flowers and a central bouquet. An elegant dinner followed as the family gathered for photos and reminiscences.
At Westfield College annual commencement President Daugherty tendered his resignation effective immediately. The executive committee of the board also quit, with a new executive committee appointed including Dr W R Shuey and Prof L H Cooley. Profs Peters and Hoover also resigned to take posts elsewhere.
The U S senate on Monday passed a resolution to amend the constitution for direct election of U S senators by the people after the measure cleared the House. The proposal now goes to state legislatures for approval.
Ohio Oil Co teams Joly and Smith Hodge and Carpenter played the first out of town match of the season at Robinson. Brown and Bell defeated Smith and Jolly 6-4 6-4. Mason and Haskell beat Hodge and Carpenter 8-6 6-4. Jolly and Smith beat Mason and Haskell 6-3 2-6 6-4. Hodge won 2 of 3 singles, while Smith and Mason each won one. Jolly dropped a set to Brown in singles.
A program of vocal piano and orchestral music and readings will be staged Friday at 8 o clock in the Congregational church under the L L club auspices. Admission 10 and 15 cents. The public is invited.
Harold Maurer son of Harry Maurer east of the city fell from a cherry tree last week and fractured one arm in the mishap.
Flag Day event at Mrs. Wilson Harlan’s home marked the Walter Burdick Chapter D A R last meeting of the season. Miss Jeanette Briscoe of Ontario California read The Origin of Our Flag, presented by Mrs. Jayne B. Kerr. Chaplain Mrs. Anna Baird presented a D A R souvenir spoon and Haviland plate to Mrs. Harlan with a farewell address praising her fidelity and untiring zeal to the chapter’s principles.

The county board of supervisors met in regular session. Reports of all officers were received and the treasurer’s salary was increased to 600 dollars per month to match deputies. Board pay was set at 3 dollars per day plus mileage. Bridges and township judges for the ensuing term were appointed. A resolution for a new jail and sheriff’s residence was introduced but dropped after no support.
