Peach Leaf Curl Battle and Fire Blight Tips
Dormant season is best for peach leaf curl control with 10-10-10 fertilizer and ample water to promote new leaf growth. Fire blight appears on some apple and pear trees. prune infected branches 6 to 8 inches into healthy wood and burn them, sterilizing tools with alcohol between cuts to prevent spread.
Beef cattle market shines with strong demand
The beef cattle market is the brightest spot in farming as prices stay high and beef production and consumption hit records. Prices have risen for two years due to robust consumer demand rather than scarcity, with recent quotations noted.
Hog price outlook for summer and fall
Prices of hogs have been surprisingly strong this year averaging 1 to 2 dollars higher per hundred pounds than 1968. May and June usually bring rising prices with July often the peak, around 23 to 24 dollars. Receipts decline into July then rise toward November. June and July receipts are about 4 percent higher than last year. Consumer demand for pork supports prices as meals shift to pork and other meats.
