High School Bid Let For Marshall Project
At Marshall High School bids were opened for the new building in the presence of the Board of Education. Eleven bids were submitted with three general bids led by Mayfair Construction Company at 333 900 dollars and 365 days. Plumbing heating and electrical bids by Fred White Co 79228 and Fredo Electric Co 13311 20. The board has not yet decided whether to let any bids.

Fire at Standard Oil Station Big Four Marshall
A fire at the Standard Oil bulk plant at the Big Four Railroad Crossing on Archer Avenue in Marshall caused extensive damage to the building and stored drums. The blaze started when oil and grease on the ground ignited from a nearby trash pile. the fire department was summoned but damage occurred before it was controlled.

Store changes hands in Marshall full service grocery
A partnership led by Paul Hill and Darrell Harlow took possession Monday of the grocery store and filling station at 1002 South Sixth Street from Charles Myles Jr. The store is renamed South Side Grocery. Hill, who recently sold his orchard near Martinsville and spent eighteen months in California, says he is glad to return to Marshall.

98 Head of Hogs Average 403 Pounds
Clyde Knowles and son bought 98 head of Poland China hogs from Robert Snedeker on Dennison road north of Marshall. The hogs totaled 39 550 pounds at an average of 403 pounds each, selling for $18.40 per head. The Knowles Stock Yards prepared a double deck semi trailer for the shipment.

Store Entered and Truck Stolen in Livingston
Early Thursday morning Homer Browns grocery in Livingston was broken into and goods valued about 25 dollars were stolen along with a few cigarettes. Willie Keslers 1938 Chevrolet pickup, parked east of Livingston, was also stolen. State Patrolman Fraker saw the truck at Keslers home at 2:30 am but no suspects or traces have been reported.

Casketed WWII Soldier Back Home for Burial
The casketed remains of Staff Sergeant George W. Grant, a World War II army member from Marshall, return from overseas for final burial. An American Graves Registration Division escort will accompany the body from the Chicago Distribution Center within a month. Sgt. Grant was buried in Finschaffen Temporary Military Cemetery, New Guinea, and is interred in Marshall per his father William Grant at 1006 Ash Street.
