Pythian Building Destroyed After Strand Theatre Fire

Fire swept the Pythian building after Strand Theatre closed, leaving the brick structure a total ruin. Insurance totaled 9000 on the building and 1000 on lodge equipment, with only minor injury to Kenneth Little. Lodge members consider rebuilding a two story lodge at the site with dining and meeting rooms planned. Debris removal began Thursday morning.

Obituary: Adam Chickadonz Dies in Tulsa at Age 102

Mrs. Ben T. Baird of Marshall learns Saturday night that her brother Adam Chickadonz died just before midnight at his daughter Mrs. William Daley’s home in Tulsa. Burial follows in Chanute, Kansas, where he had long lived. He was 102 years 2 months 1 week old and a Marshall native who moved to Kansas with his younger brother George in early manhood.

West Union 4-H Club Holds Final Summer Meeting

Members of the Union Belles 4-H club met at Mrs. John Morton’s home on July 17 for the final summer session. Plans for Martinsville show day were set and several talks and demonstrations given including oatmeal cookie mixing, a coffee cake demonstration, table setting, first aid rules, and a speech on Stephen Foster’s Old Black Joe. Guests included Miss Ella Fikuart, county Home Advisor, and others. refreshments featured the demo cookies and iced tea.

Lightning kills man crossing field near Hatton

Albert Good age 24 was struck by lightning and killed instantly Friday evening while crossing a field near his Hatton area. Allen Lichtenberger was also struck but not seriously injured as they fled for shelter beneath a barn during a thunderstorm.

Hutchings Life Saved Aber Back in Jail

Art Baker of York known as the official mower of the courthouse lawn returned to jail after an arrest and was sentenced to six months. Sheriff Pearce ordered his confinement as Baker again took Hutchings place mowing the yard and shoveling snow.

Death of Hans Hammer After Gunshot In Marshall Area

Hans Hammer aged 69 died Sunday at Paris Hospital shortly after arrival following a self inflicted 22 caliber gunshot wound found by his son Forrest at the Marshall home eight miles northwest. Sheriff Milo Pearce investigated with an inquest held in Paris. The body was taken to Oakland Illinois for funeral and burial.
