Marshall Schools to Open with 1957 58 Assignments

Marshall schools reopen Monday August 26 with all-day schedule and lunch in the high school cafeteria at noon followed by staff meetings. The board lists teaching and non teaching staff for 1957 58 including A Bush superintendent E J Harrington high school principal and A J Tyler elementary principal plus many teachers and support personnel.

Clark County 4-H Delegates Shine at State Fair

Ten Clark county 4-H girls earned Junior Department representation at the State Fair in Springfield. A food demo by Ann Morton earned an A, while others earned A and B ratings for clothing, flower arrangements, and public speaking. Delegates included Loretta Vargas Christine Goekler Sharon Braynard Deanne Beltz and others with sponsors Mrs. Margaret Cornwell and Ella J. Fikuart guiding.

Clarence Myers Buys Wabash Township Farm Near Marshall

A deal nears completion with Clarence Myers of Marshall area set to acquire 11414 acres called the Dittman home in Wabash township from Lloyd-Vargas. Possession is planned for March 1 next year. New circuit court cases include Maxine O Howes vs James N Howes divorce and Esther Frets vs Norman C Frets divorce.

Marshall high names Blemker coach for 1957 58 basketball

The Marshall school board hires Marvin Blemker as basketball coach for 1957 58 and assigns him driver training physical education coaching and football assistance. He will move to Marshall this week and the football team begins practice August 26 with Jackson Gattis and Blemker on the staff. The new football field bleachers and lighting are installed and eight games are scheduled including St Elmo Paria Charleston Martinsville Palestine Robinson Oblong and Casey. Admission is one dollar with season tickets at three dollars.

Darwin Man Injured By Shotgun Blast Through Window

Lee Cooper of Darwin was injured Wednesday night when a shotgun blast pierced a kitchen window and struck him in the back of the head. Marrs ambulance took him to Paris Hospital for treatment as Sheriff Milo Pearce investigated the incident amid reports of family troubles.

Mrs J M Turner Struck By Stroke In Paris

Mrs J M Turner suffered a stroke at her North Sixth Street home in Paris and was taken to Paris Hospital. By Thursday she was reported in critical condition. In California Hospital, William Hamilton formerly of Marshall, was recovering after a major operation at Memorial Hospital in Huntington Beach, California, room 368.

Nazarene Revival Planned at Marshall Church

The Marshall Church of the Nazarene prepares a revival from August 28 to September 8 at 7 30 each evening CST led by Evangelist Rev Winegarner of Cayuga Indiana a World War II veteran who served under General Patton and fought in the Battle of the Bulge earning three battle stars and the purple Heart He began ministry after the war in Danville Illinois and previously pastored seven years on the Illinois district He also sings and plays instruments including the vibra harp.

Dickersons to Visit in England Before Two Month Trip

Dr. and Mrs. Earl S. Dickerson of Charleston depart for a two months tour of England and the continent. They will visit their son Dr. Richard E. Dickerson in England where he pursues research in the field of physics. Dr. Dickerson, professor of education at Eastern Texas University, has been granted a one half year leave after twenty two years of service. Mrs. Dickerson, Zelda Claypool, a former Marshall teacher, is accompanying him.
