The Herald’s Roller Boy Remembers 1884 Marshall Press
George C. Baird recalls his early days at the Marshall Herald in 1884. He describes rolling ink on a Rankin hand cylinder press, delivering papers, and the close ties with the Kilborn family. He details cast of printers, newsroom routines, and the harsh economics of subscriptions while noting ongoing rivalries among local papers.
