Farm Advisor R E B Apple of Martinsville says oats acreage will reach 25 000, the largest in years, with good watermelon and potato prospects across Clark County. Corn suffers from rains and weeds, 15 000 of planned 70 000 acres abandoned or replanted late, but some fields show strong corn. Soybeans and alfalfa emerge as post floods rebound, hay shortfall feared, wheat frozen out.

Clarence Huer of Michigan City Indiana traveling in a Chevrolet collided head on with James Pepper of Harrisburg in a Ford about 10 am Monday six miles south of Marshall. The Huer car had several occupants none injured while the Pepper car carried Mr. and Mrs. Pepper and daughter Gladys with a cousin Mollie Fisher of Chicago all injured but not seriously. Mrs Pepper had a severe cut below the knee and other bruises. Mr Pepper also had a knee cut. the two girls were cut and bruised. A passing motorist took the group to Marshall for treatment. The Pepper party had been visiting in Chicago and were returning home. Both cars were badly wrecked.
Sperry Claypool of Dolson town Ship reports using 22 cars of limestone on his farm. He claims lime is essential for profitable crops and notes bone meal applied to wheat improves oat yield and overall corn crop performance.
Thursday night concert featured Marshall's Municipal Band conducted by Herman Diekhoff. Officers include John Brandenstein president and Carl V Taubeneck vice president. Members and sections listed with names for cornets, basses, trombones, clarinets, saxophones, piccalos, drums. Next program July 12 includes various marches and overtures such as Four Kings and Lustspiel, with selections from popular tunes.
A livestock marketing meeting will be held at the town house in Orange township this evening at 8:00. Two reels of motion pictures on livestock marketing will be shown and talks will be given. All interested in livestock marketing in Orange township or nearby townships are invited. Cooperating are the Clark County Farm Bureau and the Martinsville Shipping Association.
Jackson Park in Chicago will host the Chicago Clark County Association gathering this Sunday afternoon. A program of talks on Clark county days is planned under F. M. Hurst of Chicago, association president, with members urged to send names and addresses for invitees to Mrs. Thomas Reiley at 7985 South Green Street.
Guinnip is lauded as the owner of Josephine a four year eight month Jersey cow that produced 1533 pounds of milk with 6.0 test and 91.9 pounds butterfat in 30 days earning top honors on Clark County dairy records. He keeps 16 Jerseys with a registered bull and feeds a mix of corn soybean meal Purina stock, Timothy pasture year round with silage in winter. The farm features a large barn a silo and a 42 by 56 foot stock shed all portraying sanitary milk house practices.
Ben T. Dawson living south of Marshall reports finding a 1 cent piece while plowing a field last week. The coin bears the date 1835 and is part of a Herald collection of 1 cent pieces. Earlier data indicates the oldest in the collection dates to 1858.
Marshall township holds its annual Sunday schools convention at the Congregational church Sunday night at 7 30 oclock. It is a union service with other churches dismissing evening services. Program includes song service, scripture, prayers, presentations, reports, and installations with participants from local and Indianapolis speakers.
County Superintendent B F Holscher announces the regular July examination for teachers certificates will be held at the courthouse in his office on Thursday and Friday July 12 and 13. Applicants must have two years of high school and be at least 17 years old. Examinations begin at 8:00 AM.
Dr. C. F. Behner, Marshall veterinarian, was named a state veterinarian and will travel across Illinois to inspect chickens for TB testing and control.
