A. G. Hallauer seeks to form a company to quarry limestone near Big Creek, near the Vandalia and Big Four railroads. The rock tests as excellent for crushed ballast cement and soil fertilizer. An investment of about twenty to twenty five thousand dollars could equip a plant, provide power, and create many jobs, with Marshall capitalists showing interest. The limestone sits on land owned by Judge W. B. Scholfield near the rail crossings.

Mrs Mary Jane Johnson died at her home two miles south of Clarks ville on the evening of Sunday January 12. Funeral services were held at Auburn yesterday afternoon.

Wreck on Vandalia trains at Union Station injures and kills
A rear end collision between passenger trains Nos. 20 and 28 at Union Station Saturday afternoon crushed two cars of the 28 and killed a porter and several passengers. Dozens were injured, with many rushed to hospitals as wrecking crews cleared twisted coaches under the station shed. The crash halted trains and drew crowds, police, fire crews, and ambulances to the scene.

Death Comes Without Warning at Doll's Grocery
Louis VanOrman 69 collapsed and died at work in Doll's grocery store after a cold, exhausting day delivering goods. He served in the Civil War, married Nancy J. Craig in 1874, and left two children Bertha and Claude. Funeral services were held at Craig Chapel with Rev. D. D. Burt officiating.
