The Cowboy Sweetheart Company suffered hard luck after a West strike and a failed ghost walk at Marshall Sunday night. Actors wandered between stages and digs for funds, aiming to return to Shebang on varnished cars. The troupe, part of a circus band, struggled to bridge the winter season amid unsteady performances.
Special to the Herald reports a fatal wreck at Terre Haute Union Station as Number Eight collided with Number Twenty on a limited train. The crash injured many, including Marshall residents, and officials fear for local safety. The disaster disrupted plans for a Marshall concert and upcoming events.
A late wire reports Perry Pennington watchman at the V calla crossing in Marshall was among those injured in a Terre Haute wreck this afternoon. The full extent of injuries is unclear though he is not fatally hurt.
Death news from Marshall recounts multiple local losses in January including Mrs Johanna Sullivan aged 88 born in Ireland and long resident here. Michael Madden aged about 72 a respected farmer, and Mrs Margaret Gallagher 69, both of Marshall, died within days of each other with services at St Marys church. Funeral attendees included families from nearby towns in support of the bereaved.
