New protective jacket halts pistol bullets for soldiers

The army's quartermaster corps developed a plastic nylon jacket designed to stop a revolver bullet at point blank range. Weighing seven pounds and nearly a quarter inch thick, it aims to shield wearers from fragments and bullets but would not stop rifle or machine gun rounds. The device, still in development, is intended to save lives in close blast and fragmentation events, with research led by the Office of the Quartermaster General and private partners.
