Qu A Keiser sells his corner poolroom to Percy Cox while retaining the building. Health reasons prompted the sale. Keiser, long tied to Noblesville public schools, plans a rest before future ventures. Cox promises to maintain high standards and improve Marshall's business climate.
Clark county physicians met at the courthouse with doctors from Martinsville Casey Union and other towns in attendance. The session discussed medical matters and community health initiatives across the county.
The public sale of Harve Night a north of town resident drew one of the largest local auctions with total proceeds over 33100. Held Tuesday the sale saw a span of mules fetch 316 sheep bring up to 16 dollars feeding corn at 90 cents and seed corn at 1.50.
A government official in Marshall searched for relatives of Fred Roberts who lived in Marshall from 1916 to 1917, later served in the army and died in 1919. He had a $5,000 government life insurance payout, but no trace of his mother, father, or other relatives could be found in Marshall.
W P Holaday congressman from the 18th Illinois district seeks renomination. Elected in 1922 but seated December 1923, he sits in the Illinois legislature and serves on the immigration and deportation discussion. He argues for a hard line on immigration and law enforcement.
Dr F J James of Martinsville has bought the office of Dr Frank Link in Paris and will take possession on March 1 after many years of medical practice in Martinsville.
The Marshall boys basketball team will meet Flat Rock at home in the high school gym this Saturday night. Marshall aims to avenge a previous defeat suffered at Flat Rock as they have been working hard to secure a win.
The Witnois Farmers' Institute and Department of Household Science hold its 29th annual session in Dixon on February 1920. Twenty-nine prominent speakers from across the state will lecture on diverse subjects over Tuesday to Thursday.
The city superintendent awarded letters to pupils with over 90 percent in all studies for the month. North Side School lists first through eighth grades with honorees including Mary Morecraft, Ruth Alford, Mildred Carroll, Lora Ziegler, George Cole, Isabelle Bubeck, Caslon Bennett, Mary Bradley, and Chester Buckner. South Side School shows honorees from first to eighth grade such as Clarene Coldren, Frances Guionto, Clara Cloud, George Mitchell, Katherine Switzer, Helen Coldren, Virginia Morgan, and Virginia Eckhaupt.
Mrs J L Keifer, formerly of Marshall, residing with her daughters in Etos Virginia, fell recently and broke her hip while visiting Indianapolis. She was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Terri Haute Feb. 1 two cars stolen last night from a business district. A Willys Knight coupe owned by Felix Bliken baker 405 Citizens Trust building disappeared from in front of Nagle's restaurant South Sixth Street at about 10 o'clock. A Ford coupe owned by Leo Heinn of Casey Ill was taken from Ninth and Ohio streets around 10 o'clock. Police and detectives found no traces at an early morning.
Marshall basketball edged Martinsville 21 to 17 in Marshall gym Friday night. Metz and Fredenberger led Marshall scoring while Sweitzer and Smith led Martinsville. Crowd of about 250 supported Martinsville. curtain raiser saw the MTHS sophomores beat the agricultural club 6 to 5.
The Paris versus Marshall debate set for Wednesday night was postponed because most of Paris debate team members were in the militia called to Herrin last week to maintain order. A new date will be scheduled as soon as possible.
J K Termain a rural route carrier from West Union died suddenly Saturday while at work. He was a well known citizen around West Union and Marshall. The funeral was held Monday at West Union. He was recorder of the Court of Honor of West Union and a member of the Masonic lodge and Eastern Star chapter.
The D A R will stage a display of relics one hundred years old or more at the Methodist church on Sunday February 24 in connection with a Washington Service. Persons with eligible articles may contact Mrs Justin Harlan or Mrs Wm Pago to participate.
The Flying Squadron led by Frank S Regan Colonel Alfred L Moody Oliver W Stewart and Miss Norman Brown spoke at the courthouse this week with sessions Monday to Wednesday afternoons and nights. Regan urged tax discussion Moody delivered two talks on day two and Brown addressed women’s views on prohibition and law enforcement on day three.
Floyd Doughettee, held on worthlessness charges in Marshall after capture in Terre Haute last week, escaped the county jail Friday by using open doors. He has not been seen or heard from since the escape.
Fred Keifer John Cane Harry B Potter and Wirs Abbie Clark attended the meeting of the Associated Advertising clubs of the Wabash Valley at the Hotel Deming in Terre Haute Tuesday. A more definite assurance of the organization of a better business bureau with the whole Wabash Valley as its field of activity was the outstanding accomplishment of the meeting.
Clark county farmers patronize producer agencies in Indianapolis Chicago and other cities. The principal agencies at Chicago East St Louis Indianapolis and Peoria handle livestock consignments. The Illinois Agricultural Association helped start it. A.A collected a $200 railroad claim for John Beachout of Martinsville at no cost to him.
Melvin Greasham was fined three dollars and sent to the calabassa on a charge of intoxication by Squire Craig on Tuesday.
R W Mullen of Marshall was sentenced to the state penitentiary at Chester after pleading guilty to a confidence game in court before Judge A A Partlow. Six indictments were returned by the grand jury. He admitted passing bad checks issued to Fairmount merchants and faced trial offers.
With the death of Fred Shaw Marshall and the surrounding country have lost a prominent citizen. Shaw devoted his life to agriculture and cared for a Darwin farm near Marshall until recently. Flowers from friends and relatives show his wide respect and many attendees came from Vincennes Paris Terre Haute and nearby areas.
Marshall is chosen to host the county basketball tournament set for Saturday February 23. This marks the first time the event will be held in Marshall due to prior gym size limits. Teams from Martinsville Cusex Westfield and West Aniesyll appear on the schedule with a long and exciting fight expected as the contestants are evenly matched.
The cast of The Crimson Nemesis was entertained Tuesday evening by the band at a theatre party in the Hippodrome Terre Haute. Lunch followed at the Highway Cafe in Marshall. Cast members included John Hasson Drew Casteel Ralph Bartlett Donald Howell John Brandenstein Sylvia Ritter Augusta ONeal and Harriette Metz.
