President Johnson Wheat Message Sparks Farm Policy Debate
Bloomington Illinois January 31 Willam Kuhfuss Illinois Agricultural Association president criticized President Johnson for proposing a wheat certificate program. He said it would not meet goals of higher farm income without budgets raises and would raise bread prices. The plan would create a four price wheat system with penalties for noncompliers and export premiums paid by the treasury. Kuhfuss argued it would burden consumers and government while farmers push for voluntary retirement and market-based adjustments. Local notices include community events and family news.
