Regional Split in Illinois Road Improvements by County Groups
The report divides Illinois counties into two main groups by road improvement levels. In the northeast twelve counties over half of public roads are improved, with two thirds of the state's improved roads. A second group of fourteen counties has 10 to 25 percent improved roads, totaling more than a fifth of improved roads. The remaining seventy six counties show very low improvement, under one percent of total mileage. Data from 1909 to 1912 show gains but still small nationwide.
