The Alva Breneman farm barn five miles southeast of Marshall on route 5 burned Tuesday night around 8 30. A Case tractor hammermill lumber for a hog house straw hay 40 feeder pigs some sows with pigs about 40 head were lost. The corn crib was saved. Marshall firemen arrived after the barn had burned down.
Clark County leaders Mrs Naomi Baker and Mrs Cora Gasaway joined three University of Illinois specialists for a two day district 4-H clothing workshop in Vandalia. The session covered pattern fabric selection design lines and two costume looks the sportive and soft views.
The Fidelis Class of the Baptist Church gathered at Mrs. Phyllis Bennett’s home on Thursday December 12 at 7 30 for a Christmas party. Mrs. Doyne Miller presided and Mrs. Estella Campbell read the Christmas Story from Luke.
Memorial Christian Church at 702 Sycamore Street Marshall will hold dedication services Sunday December 29 at 2 30 p m. The public is invited. Twenty years ago in 1943 Mr and Mrs Douglas Barrett announce the birth of a baby girl Nancy Sue born Sunday It is the Barretts second child. Pvt Ralph E Turner of Fort Leonard Wood Missouri visited over the weekend with his parents Mr and Mrs Leslie Turner and family. Mrs Lucy Fowler 80 died Saturday at her nephew Jesse Babbcock’s home near Grandview. Funeral services were held at Clarksville Baptist Church Monday with Rev H L Hayes officiating. Frances Nelson daughter of Roscoe and Mrs Nelson broke her collar bone Tuesday night while at home. Pfc William Meehling of Champaign will spend Christmas with his parents. The Wabash Home Extension unit held its annual Christmas meeting at the Colonial Kitchen with twenty five members. Rosa Smith presided and Betty Hansel led singing. minutes by Winona Higginbotham. treasury Shirley Smith.
Two obituaries list Mrs Mary A Finley 78 of Rural Route 2 Kansas Illinois and Mrs Lilly Reedy 80 of Rural Route 5 Marshall Illinois. Survivors include spouses children siblings and many grandchildren. Services for Finley were at Pleasant Hill Church conducted by Marrs Funeral Home with burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Elvis B De Wylder of New Buffalo Michigan announces the birth of a 6 pound 13 ounce baby boy on November 29 to Mrs De Vylder formerly Georgia Webb of Marshall. William E Buehler 68 died at Christian Nursing Home with funeral at Zion E U Church. The American Legion Auxiliary Choir will air a Christmas program on WTHI TV in Terre Haute Saturday December 21 from 5 30 to 6 00 PM. The event is sponsored by Clark County Post 90 and the Marshall Chamber of Commerce with a Marshall documentary aired by WTHI.
Sixteen members of the class of 1938 attended the 1963 Marshall High School alumni banquet celebrating their twenty fifth anniversary. The class had 71 members at graduation. the photo shows Marshall Mattis and 16 named attendees across two rows.
Armstrong Methodist church will present its annual Christmas pageant Monday evening December 23 at 7:30. The public is invited to attend and worship with the congregation. The church youth will carol and hold Christmas parties Friday evening December 20 with class activities and a supper in the social room.
The Golden Age Club will guest the Royal Neighbors Lodge on Saturday December 21 at 2 00 pm in the K of P building. A Christmas Eve service is set for 11 00 pm at the Congregational Church. Seventeen Illinois 4-H dairy youths and leaders joined about 175 delegates at the ninth annual 4 H Dairy Conference in Chicago December 5 7. The three day event featured discussions on dairy marketing and career exploration and was sponsored by the Cooperative Extension Service.
