Friday night sleet storm with strong winds felled hundreds of tree limbs and ripped wires and poles, inflicting substantial damage to telephone lines.
Co. B. Adams, who nearly severed his head in a suicide bid, has repeatedly threatened self harm in jail. In county court on Saturday he was declared insane and taken that night to the Anha hospital for the insane.
Geraldine Marie Downs born April 26 19156 West Terre Haute died December 8 aged with parents Lote and Stella Downs and sister Pearl Louise survive. Funeral held in U B church Marshall Friday with Rev N C Royer and Rev Higgins officiating. Interment Marshall cemetery.
Miss Alice English youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs W English wed Harry Tingley in a Sunday evening ceremony at the M E parsonage. Rev E G Sandmeyer officiated with Miss Mattie English and Chester English as witnesses. The couple will settle on the groom’s farm eight miles south of Marshall.
Murley Freeman born March 10 1900 in Anderson township died December 6 1915. He leaves parents three brothers Harry Perry Wayne and sister Alma and many friends. He joined Mill Creek Baptist church January 1913 and lived as a devout believer. Funeral by Rev Bert Beckles, burial at Ohio Cemetery.
Bowles Live Stock Commission Co of Chicago pursued foreclosure on livestock owned by Oscar Ining of Westfield township. A second mortgageholder Pinnell of Kansas briefly held stock, Irving refused surrender. An injunction blocked sale, but was ignored. contempt cited possible.
Miss Carrie Emerson daughter of Edward Emerson died by suicide Sunday night at her home on North Highth Street. Her body was found Monday morning by her father in an unfinished room after she failed to come to breakfast. A note left behind gave a reason but did not specify it. Described as of fine character she had shown signs of mental derangement for weeks and hospital care was discussed.
Carrie Emerson born November 11 1884 in Marshall dies after lifelong care for her father and brothers. She outlived three brothers and her mother who died in May 1908. leaves brothers Daniel of Lawrenceville Burdette of Marshall two sisters Ruth Culter of Marshall May Sweet of Denver and a father. She joined the Methodist church March 1 1896 under H C Gibbs and was a Loyal American in Marshall. She devoted her life to family and had many devoted friends.
November report shows attendance gains and consistent enrollment at 125 with average daily attendance 121. Senior attendance best, freshmen least tardy. The December meeting of the Board of Supervisors saw routine business amid sharp bill trimming. The county approved semi annual officer reports and denied a franchise extension for the Decatur Sullivan Mattoon Traction Co due to wartime constraints. Pension awards of 150 dollars yearly were granted to nine listed blind recipients. A grand jury for the March term was named, including Anderson Jr, Kannamacher, Veach, Bancroft, and others from Auburn Casey Darwin Martinsville and nearby towns.
Christian Washington Smith died Friday evening at his home on South Eighth Street after a long illness. Born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania on November 18, 1834, he moved to Marshall in 1854 and served two years in the Union Army before discharge due to sickness. He leaves one daughter Mrs. E. A. Lockard and a sister Mrs. Mary Holler. Funeral services were held Sunday at the family home, conducted by Rev. W. Zeigler, with burial in the city cemetery beside Odd Fellows ceremonies.
The Methodist church choir led by Mr James Cosgrove will present a Christmas cantata titled The Shepherd King by B Lincoln Hall next Sunday at 7 00 PM. Hall is a young composer with a growing reputation and the choir promises to deliver the best musical evening the church has seen inviting the public to attend.
The Congregational church hosts a Union prayer meeting tonight at 715 Plus Ultra Class social Thursday at Mrs. Losen 115 EB Locust home. Friday features a Sunday school Christmas social with a ten cent gift limit. Sunday services: school 9:30, C E 6:15, preaching 10:45 and 7. Teachers' meeting next Tuesday p.m. at the pastor's study. Coal leasing accelerates as farmers flock to the program with over 100000 acres now leased in the county. A drilling outfit is expected to operate near Auburn this week in the ongoing effort.

Antone Forbeck, working on Mrs. August Buehler’s farm in Wabash township, fell 18 feet from a barn roof yesterday afternoon. He did not regain consciousness for two hours. No bones were broken but the back was badly hurt and the sight of the right eye is thought destroyed.
The Paris Chamber of Commerce plans a convention of road advocates to push a Danville to Mt Carmel highway via Paris, Marshall and Robinson. Interest spreads to other counties, though Clark County may oppose funding and prefer local responsibility.
The Clark County Medical Society met in the courthouse. Members discussed a state health board note on a better baby contest set for March 4 to 11. A committee of S C Bradley Ryerson Hall Rowland and Johnson will plan it. Many professional topics were covered including billing practices and standards for medicines.
Prices for Illinois crude rose with a quoted value of 1.42 per barrel. Market observers note the steady upward trend as production and demand shift.
At Vandalia railway station a robber struck Sunday evening. Verne Jones, the night operator, was forced to open the cash drawer and $8 was taken. The thief tied Jones and fled, leaving little clue and no arrests. Jones was later released.
