Judge Orders Six Months at Penal Farm for Teen Thief
In Clark county court Judge John M. Hollenbeck sentences Leonard Lee a Chicago youth, about nineteen, to six months at the Penal Farm in Vandalia for resisting an officer. Lee, who stole a car in Chicago and crashed near Marshall, is to serve the term away from the county jail. Deputy sheriffs Milo Pearce Kenneth Cole and Buddy Simpson transport him and co-defendant Millard G. Dewitt to Vandalia for confinement.

A rotary rig started a new well on the Cox land in Lower Wabash township. The Mullen, Atkins, Vern Davison, Van Fleet, Hilbert, and other wells are in various stages with pipe set and results pending. Some wells, including the Van Fleet one, reached depths around 845 feet and were abandoned as dry. Hilbert reached about 1500 feet and was also dry. The report notes the Cox well as in proven territory and expected to be a good producer.

The Wabash Unit of Clark County Home Bureau held its annual August family picnic at the Armstrong church basement on Saturday evening August 22 at 7 30. Eighteen members and thirty three guests attended with Ella Welsh Agnes Welsh Hester Newlin and Dorothy Welsh on the planning committee. Dorothy Welsh served as master of ceremonies. The evening featured a supper, roses on the tables, and a lively program including Ella Fikuart on Home Bureau work Polly Cork accordion solo and Dorothy lead in several songs with Ray and Helen Farris performing a musical pantomime.
