Water levels at five lakes to be lowered

Illinois will lower water levels at five state lakes starting September 8 and maintain a low stage through fall and early winter. Lakes affected include Lincoln Trail near Marshall, Dolan Lake near McLeansboro, Washington County lake near Nashville, Randolph County lake near Chester, and Ferne Clyffe at Goreville. Fisheries investigations show panfish are overcrowded, and lowering water will push small panfish from weedbeds to deeper water where bass feed.
