Roosevelt and Johnson Named by Progressives
At the first national Progressive convention Roosevelt and Johnson were proclaimed candidates for president and vice president. Delegates pledged large majorities for the ticket in Illinois and Pennsylvania and adopted the party name as Progressive. A nation wide campaign plan emerged with Dixon to head the national committee, and resolutions favored separate Progressive electors in Pennsylvania and full statewide organization.
