Clark County Fair unveils Royal Midwest shows with six performances and more than 40 concessions. Attractions include a ferris wheel ponies aerial acts and a variety of animal and athletic acts. Rides cost 20c with blue tickets earned from local merchants. kids encouraged to ask for tickets with purchases.

The Green Moss Methodist church hosts its annual homecoming on Sunday August 8 with Sunday school at 9 30 am a basket dinner at noon and the Evangelaires of Eldorado leading the afternoon program at 2 00 pm All welcome Teachers College Terre Haute and area students including George Gerald Mika Agnes Lulu Davis Mary Elizabeth Davis Eugene Deverick Joy Alberta Dawson listed among attendees

Miss Olive Grindle daughter of Mr and Mrs Marlow Grindle married H L Hollingsworth son of Mr and Mrs Lloyd Hollingsworth on a Sunday at 2 00 p m in Marshall First Methodist Church officiated by Rev Kemp. The couple will reside on a farm route 3 Marshall.
A pink and blue surprise shower was held Thursday evening by Erma Miller honoring Mrs Marceline Miller. Cream pastries were served. Attendees included Ann Beyer Helen Finkbiner Wanda Finkbiner and other local guests plus Richard Miller LeRoy Lamb Mary Ann Miller and Robert Allen. Givers unable to attend sent gifts.
Fr. Fred Meehling and sister Mrs. Frances Bohn with daughters Emma Louise and Mary Lou left last Saturday for Seattle for a relatives visit and then planned trips to California.
First Church of Christ Scientist Marshall Illinois held its dedication service on Sunday August 1 1954 after a lengthy history of the church starting with a 1919 meeting and the move to a new building at 614 Pine Street completed in 1954 The notice credits The Mother Church Boston and local supporters for assistance and notes the church was debt free before the dedication.
Miss Minnie Keifer and sister Kathryn and Mrs Everett McKeen of near Orlando Florida have spent the past week in Marshall visiting their brother Fred Keifer and other relatives and friends.
The Cottonwood Homecoming is planned for next Sunday August 8 1954 at Harry Craig Lake. All alumni and friends are invited to attend and enjoy the day with old schoolmates.
Funeral services for R. Marrs were held at 2:00 PM Monday at Clarksville Baptist Church with Rev. Kemp and Rev. Farris officiating. Burial followed in Clarksville Cemetery. Survivors include a son, two sisters, two grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. The body was moved to Marrs Funeral Home.
Initiation ceremonies of Marshall Chapter 739 Orders of Eastern Star postponed indefinitely. Regular meeting will be at the usual date and time. The 25th Hunter Reunion set for August 15 1954 at Marshall Fairgrounds. Mrs Irene Cline returned home after summer in Canada with sister and family. Mrs Othol Miller also returned from Canada. Darrell Kirby injured when his car left the pavement south of Marshall, now home from Union Hospital Terre Haute. Judge and Mrs H R Shavely back from vacation with daughter Mrs Franklin Cole and family at Prouts Neck Maine.
Fifty years ago in 1904 marriage licenses were issued to Stephen A Ulrey and Clara Davis of Martinsville and Westfield, Samuel F Dan forth and Mary Cooper of Hillsboro and Marshall, William C Sharp and Grace Spittler of Casey and Anderson township. High school opening delayed to September 12 to complete grounds and walks. William Forsythe aged 67 died, leaving three children. Elder J A Sweet conducted the funeral and Forsythe cemetery burial. Field Williamson and Mabel Strohm attended a surprise dinner for Ed Grant on Sunday with Clara Prevo and Flossie Cullison present.
Forty years ago Misa Rose Randall daughter of Mr and Mrs John T Randall wed Minter Thomas of Tampa Florida in a five o clock ceremony conducted by Rev E G Sandmeyer with close family present. Abigail Lindley aged 48 died Monday morning. Milo Delance infant son of Mr and Mrs William Miller died July 24 of whooping cough at nearly four months. Interment was in Darwin cemetery. Mrs Orlando Lewis of Terre Haute visited here after her brother died. Sol Handy drove his Mitchell car to Chicago for repairs with Seymour Hurst accompanying him. Grabenheimer clothing store was burglarized last Wednesday night entrance gained through a side window.
Thirty years ago 1924 J T Randall prepares the empty west square building once occupied by Perisha grocery to run a flour and feed store. Marriage licenses issued for Ernest Tingley and Freda Bush. Tarquin Nichols and Gladys Wolcott. Local families travel and visit Chicago and Burnett Indiana relatives during weekend.
Twenty years ago in Tulsa Oklahoma Mrs Silas Hunter aged 70 died and Mrs George Luckhaupt seriously injured when struck by a car. Mrs Ida M Parrish dies at 66 in Elkbridge Edgar county burial in Edgar cemetery Paris. Michael Reeley dies at a Dolson home. Hobart Nelson announces birth of son Walter Allen in Marshall.
Ten Years Ago 1944 announcements include the birth of Ann Arlene Gaskill on July 28 at Union Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Gaskill. Mrs. Rosemary Gayles learns her husband Herschel Cline’s son died June 24 in France. Marriage licenses issued to Glenn Morgan and Gladys Lutz, both of Marshall, and Henry Lemmons and Betty Van Sant, both of Marshall. Eleanor Wells of near West Union and Pvt Harold T. Craig of Marshall listed among notices.
Circuit court opened July 31 with Judge Corston presiding. The People vs Fred Remlinger on probation revocation was denied. Juanita Paul vs Charles Paul granted a divorce and summons for child support issued with return day set for September third Monday. Cleo Smitley vs Mary Jane Smitley not heard. Gable Appliance Co. vs County Treasurer allowed. Louise Cork and Harold Thompson granted divorces with support orders. Court to reconvene September 4 at 9:00 a m.
Christian Nursing Home Marstall Illinois was announced as a winner in a national Strutwear contest. Mrs Charity Ann Downs will receive Strutwear hosiery for submitting a name for the dull sheen reverse knit hosiery. Her entry was among 151 selected from over 50 thousand submissions.

Eighteen Sea Scouts and three leaders attended a three day event at Shakamak Park from July 19 to July 21 for swimming boating and camping. Arnold Tyler Richard Ralston and Ernie DeMougin assisted Mr Melchior during the stay.
The library will be closed on Wednesday through Friday, August 11, 12, and 18, due to the Clark County Fair.
Marshall and spouse married last Friday in Terra Haute. Doris and Elizabeth Garwood visit great uncle and aunt Mr. and Mrs. Jesse M. Hunt in Fairbanks, Indiana. Danny Jackson observes seventh birthday with a family dinner hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Jackson.
