Announcement states Condor Printing Company opens Monday at 114 North Sixth Street Marshall. Charles Danner is owner of the shop.
Alderman E. E. Howell was absent from the Marshall city council meeting. A tie vote or absence stalled action on the Fifth street pavement project delaying paving until the first Monday in September. D. L. Hackney won approval to build a filling station on South Sixth street. P. G. Howe proposed forming a community fire company to buy and maintain a shared fire engine. Henschen of Terre Haute was authorized expenses to inspect used units in St. Louis and Cincinnati for the light plant.
County officials receive a 1927 Attorney General letter detailing Senate Bills 446 and 532. The ruling states that assessed valuation for taxes should move from one half to full cash value, with rates halved correspondingly, applying to state county and municipal taxes for the year.
A Illinois state poultry record project finds the top third of 264 flocks averaged 152 hens with 116 eggs each, while the bottom third averaged 128 hens and 103 eggs. Best flocks delivered higher labor income and net receipts per hen, despite greater total investment.
Friday received notice from acting Governor Fred E. Sterling of a special election set for October 18 to elect a circuit judge for the fifth judicial district. The vacancy follows the death of Judge John H. Marshall.
Thelma Miller granddaughter of Mrs. Tamsen Miller of Walnut Prairie and Louie Lawrence son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lawrence of Marshall were married at noon in Terre Haute last Wednesday. Miller wore a brown satin dress and Lawrence blue broadcloth. The bride, Marshall Township High School graduate, joins a new family.

The Marshall Chamber of Commerce band will perform at the Clark County Fair in Martinsville from September 6 to 10. The next week’s program includes Overture of the Regiment, Huffer Overture, Moonlight on the Ganges, Old Chestnuts, My Darling Bowery Girl, Sunshine of Paradise Alley, and The Star Spangled Banner among others.
Ora E. Melville of Terre Haute was fined two dollars and court costs in Squire Tom Craig's court on a charge of peddling without a license.
Steve Starkey's barn near Marshall on the National road was struck by lightning Friday night and burned. The barn housed farming implements, about 15 tons of hay, and 2000 bushels of corn.
Emil Logan, 21, son of Mr and Mrs Simon Logan of Oakland, died at Paris hospital after a Sunday night crash near Oliver. He was riding a motorcycle behind a car driven by LN Landrum of Honeywell Missouri when he attempted to pass and hit a Ford roadster carrying Trevalyn Tumey and Frances Nay of Marshall. Tumey was injured. Nay unhurt. Both vehicles wrecked.
A Wednesday afternoon piano recital by Mrs. Velma Sullins Thomas's pupils closed the summer term at her parents home. The event featured a beginner class demonstrating ear training and rhythm without private lessons, then solos by the group. A second informal recital followed, with a picnic at Blizzard's Ford after.
Mrs. Clauda Ross of Terre Haute broke her right leg in two places above the ankle Tuesday after stepping into a hole at Marshall cemetery. She and her son Harold were walking to the pond for water when the accident happened. Dr J J Weir treated her at the home of her sister-in-law Mrs. Ben Ogle after she was carried there by several men.
Mrs Christine Yager of Chicago sustained a broken right arm and minor injuries when a Ford car carrying her family side swiped another vehicle north of Marshall near the Herman Fawley farm. Mr Yager and three children were in the car. the other auto was undamaged and the Yager vehicle went into a ditch on the way to Kentucky.
The Iliana Teachers' Service office relocates from the National Dixie Hotel in Marshall to Champaign this week. Manager J. R. Colbert will move his family, and staffer Miss Fern Lucan will join them and enter the University of Illinois this fall.
Terre Haute couple Riley Tetrick and Ruth Heuer wed in Squire Tom Craig’s office on Monday. The ceremony connected two residents of Terre Haute, Indiana, in a brief nuptial service.
The Thirty-First Clark county fair will run September 6 to 10 at Martinsville with entry day on Tuesday. W. W. Merritt offers a silver trophy for the best ten ears of utility type yellow Dent corn, to be exhibited at the First National Bank in Martinsville.
Miss Margaret Hess of Martinsville and a man who gave the name Charles Errand were arrested near the overhead bridge north of Marshall by Sheriff Harry Coldren and Deputy Roy Cropp. They were alleged to have robbed a Danville filling station and two guns were taken from the man before Danville authorities retrieved them Tuesday afternoon.
Miss Martha Gore aged 52 died Friday afternoon at the Paris hospital from burns suffered when a kerosene lamp exploded at the Hunter township home of James Bales where she worked as a housekeeper. She is survived by a brother William Gore near Marshall and a sister Mrs Nichols of Dana Indiana. Funeral services were held Sunday at 1100 oclock at the Franklin church near Paris with burial in the adjoining cemetery.
Leon Cox, manager, reports the Pythian Theatre has new stage curtains including a black velour backdrop, grey and black tapestry cycloramas, and red velour front curtain with gold fringe. Doors and windows are draped with matching red velour and gold fringe.
A stated meeting of the Masons will be held next Wednesday at 7 30 o'clock.
