National F H A Week Observed By Marshall Chapter
The Marshall Chapter of the Future Homemakers of America celebrates National FHA Week and its 21st anniversary during April 18. Twenty eight thousand nine hundred six girls nationwide participate in the coming of age theme Foundation For Progress. A Thursday mini style show reached eighth grade girls, highlighting home economics education opportunities. Saturday 160 FHA members plus sponsors attended the Charleston rally and toured Eastern Illinois University’s new Home Economics Education building. A Thursday April 6 fashion show at 7 30 p m presented by FHA and Home Economics classes featured eighth graders and their mothers invited attendees.

Several windows were broken with bottles in Marshall last Sunday night. The damage started near Marshall's Grocery on North First Street and extended to the Williams Veterinary building by Vandalia railroad. Marshall High School suffered the most, with about five large windows shattered.

National Institute of Mental Health Fellowship Awarded
Wiley C. Smith, son of Mrs Cecile Smith of Marshall Illinois, has been awarded a National Institute of Mental Health Fellowship to attend Indiana University Bloomington and an assistantship in the sociology department. The fellowship runs from September 1 and supports study in deviant behavior research including criminology and related fields. Smith, a 1957 Marshall High School graduate, earned degrees from Indiana State University and currently teaches at Indiana State University. He and his wife Lois Ewbank and their three children reside in Fort Wayne Indiana.
