Merida Walker born August 1826 near Louisville Kentucky died March 27 1916 at the home of his daughter Mrs Elvira Williams West Union aged 90 years 7 months 9 days He came to Illinois with his parents at age two and lived near West Union except one year in Wayne county He married Perlina Merck March 24 1852 she died April 28 1907 Surviving are Mrs Williams Mrs Richard Handy West Union and Mrs J C Kuhn Denver Colorado Twenty grandchildren eighteen great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren Two brothers Samuel Fairfield and Joseph Westfield Also a lifelong Methodist church member in Marshall Funeral services conducted by Rev Mr Moore at West Union Methodist Church Beulah cemetery interment.
The county election left the Board of Supervisors with little change. Democrats hold a one vote majority. a Republican gained a supervisor in Darwin while a loss occurred in Wabash. Iredell Evans died at his Melrose home last Thursday after a long illness from kidney trouble. Born May 18 1845 in Melrose he served in the 79th Illinois Infantry and was taken prisoner at Chickamauga. He married Alice Drake Oct 1 1867 and survived by several children. He was a respected farmer and local official. Funeral services were held at Plymouth church with interment nearby.
Miss Elizabeth Catherine Lutz aged 46 years died at her sister Mrs Fred Wieland’s Charleston home after a heart condition. She was born near Marshall to Henry and Catherine Lutz and survived by five brothers and one sister. Funeral services were conducted by the Rebekah lodge of Charleston with interment in Clarksville.
The last entertainment in the season's lyceum course was Monday evening by the American Quartet and drew a large audience. The quartet's artists impressed, Clayton Conrad's cartooning was a highlighted feature, and the course is praised as highly successful with next season expected to be equally popular.
