Ambulance wage law forces Southern Illinois towns to rethink service
A 1967 interpretation of the federal minimum wage law compels ambulance operators in Southern Illinois towns to pay drivers on standby. Legislation may require 24 hour service and state certification, risking widespread cuts and potential local taxes to fund subsidies.
