Kenneth W. Cline son of Mr and Mrs Hubert Cline of Marshall is a student at the University of Southern California. He was honorably discharged from the Navy last November. His brother Jon N. Cline is in the Air Force at Lackland AFB San Antonio Texas.
A University of Illinois student will spend six weeks in full time social studies teaching at Arlington Heights beginning March 22 under the university's professional teaching program. The placement aims to train prospective teachers through hands on instruction at the high school level.
Clark County Fair Association will hold a special meeting Monday to discuss erecting a new 4 H barn on county land. Forsythe Farm Bureau and 41 Clubs have donated funds totaling 9,000 toward construction. Ohio Company is being approached for additional support to have the barn ready for the August fair.

The Choral department at Marshall High School presents its annual spring concert Sunday April 4 at 2 30 pm in the High School Gym. The mixed choir girls glee club and boys glee club perform with about 165 students participating.

Miss Clara Black turns 18 with a party hosted by J K Black and wife for twenty four friends with games and refreshments.
Forty years ago in 1914 Pearly Babcock took a teaching post for the spring term at Spiketown. Misa Ciara Barton of Terre Haute visits her sister Mrs Liz Darg in the area. A 68 year old man dies. funeral services held at Brick Mine. Mrs C M Bubeck moves into 808 North Seventh Street. Virginia Brown dies at home in Livingston aged 80. Marshall and Darwin townships plan Good Roads Day on Wednesday the 15th.
Mrs William Lickert and her father Elmer Fawley traveled to Union hospital Terre Haute for diabetes treatment. Harry Adams Burns Dixon and S R Prevo visited Indianapolis on business. Glenn Ritter John Hollenbeck and Richard White, recently employed in South Bend, spent the weekend with relatives. Roy Norton and wife of Terre Haute welcomed a baby boy Jack LeRoy born Friday. Mr and Mrs Fred B Keifer visited Effingham to meet daughter Mrs C G Alwood visiting in Chicago. Mr and Mrs James Brady hosted a Sunday dinner for guests.
Twenty years ago in Marshall area Earl Weaver and his wife Arlington celebrated the birth of a daughter Genevieve Jane on March 20 1934 Rosa Sockler age 91 died at her daughter Mrs Charley Eitel’s home north of Marshall Funeral services were held at Mrs Eitel’s home with Rev B Schuermeier officiating burial followed in Marshall cemetery Mrs Harry Reynolds hosted about 45 neighbors and relatives for her husband’s 50th birth anniversary Marie Asmann of Evanville Indiana visited Mr and Mrs Earl Finney before returning home Cleo Craig was called to St Anthony Hospital in Terre Haute for employment Cleo Louis of Terre Haute visited cousin Madge Nightlinger Mr and Mrs RL Hunt and Joe Garwood visited their daughter Mrs Everett Duckworth and family in Martinsville Indiana on Sunday
Hubert B D Irwin age 56 superintendent of streets and alleys in Marshall died suddenly Saturday morning while with his crew at the city dump west of town. Survived by widow Effie son Chester and two daughters Mrs Dudley Beltz and Mrs Robert Fraker all of Marshall. Also four brothers and two sisters. Body removed to Moore Funeral Home with services Tuesday at 2 pm conducted by Rev H J Kemp. Burial in Marshall Cemetery.
Miss Ruby Smittkamp daughter of Mr and Mrs Homer Smittkamp and Eon Francis son of Mr and Mrs Ibure Francis wed Tuesday evening at Trinity Methodist church in Paris. Rev P Henry Lotz officiated as attendants James Howard and Wilma Jean Potts. Music by Carolyn Delashmidt. Reception at the Francis home.
The Zion Emmanuel Women’s Society of World Service held its monthly meeting at Mrs. Arthur Miller’s home. Mrs. Ruth Berner was elected president with Minnie King as vice president, Clara Miller secretary, and Fairy Imle treasurer. Fifteen members and one guest attended. Berner will represent the group at the Sinois Branch convention in Freeport May 25 to 27.
Ten years ago in 1944, Perry Ridpath and wife announce the birth of a son on March 28 at Union Hospital Terre Haute. Belle V Hutchinson dies at 76 near Marshall with burial at Livingston Cemetery. Julia Lea Jennings visits family in Terre Haute while Ben T Baird and Nelson Smith families spend Sunday with relatives in Georgetown and Riley area.
The Clark County Home Bureau held a half day Play Day on Friday March 26 at the American Legion Hall Marshall drawing 215 attendees including out of county visitors from Vigo Indiana. The day featured games square dancing a pot luck lunch a varied program of five minute entertainments and unit exhibits with craft displays and demonstrations from twenty units.
Two Marshall students James Fredenberger and Roscoe Wallace report for the Eastern Illinois State College golf team under Coach Bob Carey. The 11 man squad opens April 17 at Charleston against Illinois Normal, with home and away meets against Indiana State Millikin and a IIAC/ICAC schedule culminating May 21-22 at Carbondale.
Joe Perkins of Marshall is a freshman at North Central College Naperville Illinois and sings bass in the concert choir which just returned from a midwest tour through Minnesota Wisconsin and Illinois led by the college ensemble.
Mr and Mrs Wm Masters of Indianapolis announce an 8 lb son born March 29 named Robert Lee. Mrs Masters formerly Mary Lou Butcher. Mr and Mrs Don Shonk announce a 6 lb 15 oz son named Jeffrey Alan their second child. Mrs Shonk formerly Joan Siverly.
