Gen William Shakespeare, Civil War veteran, editor, lawyer and businessman, died Thursday in Kalamazoo at age 81 after a long decline. Born Paris Ohio April 7 1844 he served from 1861 to 1864 then built the Kalamazoo Gazette and practiced law with Hon N L Balch. He helped inspire state support for Michigan Soldiers Home in Grand Rapids. He was married to Lydia A Buel Markham in 1867 and leaves four children in Kalamazoo.
