In Berrien County yesterday the court appointed T. P. Gore of Benton Harbor as receiver for Bridgman Bank. Assistant Gen. Paul Eager charged misapplication of funds totaling about 19,000 dollars by officials and employees. no criminal action noted in the petition.
Governor Roosevelt leads a cleanup in New York City targeting judges licemen and bondsmen. The campaign names Isidor J. Kessel born in Austria as the man carrying out the effort, highlighting foreign extraction as noted in the report.
Governor Green commuted Arthur C. Rich from life to a 10 to 20 year term for a 1925 assault on Miss Kathleen King. Rich, son of a Battle Creek mill owner, had served since 1928 after sensational trials. release date now set for November 4, 1993. In Detroit on December 31 a ten year old girl Margaret Crnning was killed and three others injured when a motorist with defective vision plowed into them as they attempted to cross. Thomas Cannon, 28, was arrested on negligent homicide charges after witnesses said he was speeding. Police testing showed Cannon cannot distinguish ordinary objects three car lengths ahead. Anna May Canning, six, internal injuries and broken legs. James, seven, broken leg and severe injuries. James Whitelaw, 25, also injured and hospitalized.
