In Kalamazoo Michigan a minister Benjamin Harrison Blankenship and organist Mrs. Dorris L. Cooley were held after a fight in which Cooley's husband was slashed with a knife. The disturbance began when Cooley discovered the affair.
A former Chicago resident, Mrs Dickey, died yesterday in Chicago. She was well known in the city’s exclusive social and musical circles and is survived by two sons, Robert Dickey of New York and Frank Dickey of Chicago. Funeral arrangements are pending at Kebrer & More, with services expected Thursday morning at about 9 o'clock conducted by Rev James Horton.
A Christmas wake of accidents across the United States leaves many victims. In Detroit, six people died in a span covering Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, including Leona Mitchell aged 34 struck by a car, Ida Hinkley aged 78 killed attempting to cross a street, and Emma Preston aged 55 dying after a hospital admission. Additional deaths note a child burn and several other fatalities from traffic, home accidents, and a train collision elsewhere.
Alumni from the last three years oppose those with three or more years, to face Olivet College in a high school event at Marshall. Notable names listed include George Stone, Waltz, Schuler, Purcell, Glyshaw, and Fongi among others, with Be and Seaman noted. The match draws interest beyond the court as veteran players return.

Funeral services for Mrs Agnes Purcell, died recently, will be at 8:00 from St Marys Church with burial in St Marys Cemetery. She was born October 10, 1852 in Fochester, New York, moved to Michigan in 1686 and lived in Marshall area for years. Survived by son Robert A Church, sister Elizabeth Jennings, and six nephews. She was a member of St Marys church and the Woman's Relief Corps.
Grover C Dillman notes that highway construction this year will yield 449 miles of surfacing, down from 486 in 1929, due to tighter budgets and late 1930 contracts. Weather favorable in 1929 boosted paving while 1930 saw reduced activity and delayed awards. Federal aid rose two thirds, adding 1,468,785 dollars for winter work as states match funds to provide employment amid the downturn.
Dr E J Marshall longtime Bellevue physician died Thursday morning at his West Michigan Avenue home after a lengthy illness. Born February 11 1853 in DeWitt he studied medicine at Hadenan College Chicago graduating 1875. He practiced in Bellevue before moving to Marshall in 1880 and maintained a family office for forty years. Survived by widow and three daughters Anna Deuel Mrs Joseph Deuel and Mrs G H Mamaw of Pontiac two grandchildren Dorothy Deuel and Marshall Mamaw. Funeral Sunday at 2 30 from residence with Rev James M Horton officiating. interment Oakridge.
Dr John Dewey of Columbia University writes to Senator George W Norris proposing a third party. The letter from the League for Independent Political Action urges Norris to abandon the insurgent Republican platform and join a broader movement, while Norris has yet to respond and has recently discussed third party issues.
A basement fire at the Garden theatre started by an overflowing oil burner damaged interior decorating with estimates from 500 to 1000 dollars. Fire Chief Vogt blamed a shut off valve failure, smoke reached the maid floor, two hose lines fought the blaze, but shows continued as normal.
In Salta province La Poma was practically razed by a major earthquake on December 26. Thirty six bodies recovered, over 100 injured, population about 3000. Aftershocks continued, fires absent, survivors in huts and tents as warnings reinforced remaining structures.

A central disturbance over northern Georgia moves northeast, likely bringing more cloudiness and some rain or drizzle in the next 12 to 18 hours. Mild conditions persist thereafter as Manitoba and Saskatchewan low pressure maintains moderate temperatures.
