New York, Dec 15. Charles E Chapin a former New York editor died at Sing Sing prison after serving nearly 12 years of a 10 year to life sentence for murdering his wife Nellie Beebe. His sister Marion Chapin of Washington asked the warden to send his remains to Washington for burial beside his wife in Glenwood Cemetery. Chapin killed his wife in a murder plot he planned and attempted to carry out before his death. He was noted for tending to flowers and birds in the prison aviary.

Jackson police report Patrolman Leonard A. Carey died from gunshot wounds suffered earlier in the day after Albert Messner, said to be in a drunken rage, fired at Carey and Patrolman Tracy Vaughn as they confronted him at his home. Vaughn overpowered Messner. Earlier in the year Messner’s home was the scene of a murder-suicide involving his daughter Catherine, age 22, who was killed by Frank Herman, a state prison inmate who killed himself after the act.

Two armed bandits bound the night watchman with a rope at the Sears Roebuck store in Lansing after breaking in and ransacking the departments. Diamond Salesman Robbed in Chicago
Harry Fine a New York diamond salesman arrived in Chicago with about $60 000 worth of unset stones. After meeting a jeweler and walking back to his hotel near the Palmer House two men seized him at gunpoint on Wabash Avenue and drove off with the diamonds. Birmingham Pair Die From Gas Fumes

Built Kitchen Fire With Gasoline
Lansing, Mich. ec. 15. While building a fire in the kitchen stove Sunday, Glenn Vincent mistook a can of naptha for kerosene. He is in a local hospital seriously burned, two others have minor burns, and a fourth occupant has severe cuts. Jerry Puller of Eaton Rapids was burned on hands and arms rushing to safety. Mrs. Puller was cut escaping through a window. Mrs. Ernest Vincent of Eaton Rapids was slightly burned as she ran through the flames.
