Toledo Woman Dies by Her Own Action
A Toledo woman, Mrs. Jane Clark-Proctor, age seventy, died after ingesting carbaric acid on May 28. Despondent over her brother Edward Proctor’s death, the Cincinnati soap magnate, she swallowed three tea spoonfuls and lay unconscious until Tuesday. The coroner forwarded details after a belated inquest, and burial set in Cincinnati. In Paris, M. Schmidt won a $9,000 judgment against Prince De Sagan, former husband of Anna Gould, for money borrowed.

Rev Dr Edward Everett Hale, chaplain of the US Senate and author of The Man Without a Country, died at his Boston home at 3 a.m. after heart failure. Born April 8, 1822, in Boston, he spoke recently at Unitarian meetings and was honored by Harvard, Dartmouth, and Williams. Taft sent condolences to Hale’s widow from Washington.

In Chicago on June 1 a clash between striking seamen sympathizers and the crew of the coal barge Tyrone left several wounded and one possibly fatally. Captain Neal and eight non union men fought about twenty five attackers who boarded the barge, using clubs and coal.
