Turkish government police seek the headquarters of a radical Young Turkey faction plotting the sultan’s overthrow. Exremists said to seek reform but fear the sultan’s sincerity, while the Young Turks claim they can force his overthrow if needed.
Taft, while riding four miles from the hotel at Hot Springs, Va., was pitched head first after the horse buckled its knees. He escaped serious injury, sustaining only bruises and a shaken state. Campaign aides reported plans for a Cleveland address by Senator Smith, with Hepburn traveling to Hot Springs.
Boston reports Japan's corner in marine torpedoes is broken as the Davis torpedo undergoes successful trials off Sheep Island Boston harbor. Wilbur Wright’s aeroplane experiments in Paris were interrupted by a crash during what promised to be a successful flight. The machine struck the ground from about thirty meters, breaking the felt wing and causing minor injuries to Wright while he remained unharmed. He had flown ten kilometers at twenty five meters, then reached thirty meters before the motor failed again and the repair will take a week.

Shanghai August 13 Chinese troops mutinied at Konh Hau and spread terror along their flight toward the Taking mountains. More than 1,000 soldiers are involved as they pillage villages and kill numerous people to join rebels entrenched in the mountains. Troops were despatched to intercept but mutineers have a head start and may reach the mountains. The mutiny followed the arrest for gambling and they killed their commander plus associates.
