$40 Million Shell Bomb Plant Approved for Crab Orchard Lake
Special to The Marion Evening Post reports President Roosevelt approved a $40,000,000 Illinois Ordnance Plant to be built near Crab Orchard Lake. The site, south of Route 13 and west of Marion, will cover about 20,000 acres and employ thousands during construction and operation. Wages will be set via War and Labor Departments with union pay. Contracts expected within ten days and three-shift operation planned.
