The doors of Will Mayfield College opened Tuesday morning drawing a large enrollment of young men and others, with brighter prospects than ever. A huge crowd of Democrats from across the state gathered in Springfield last Thursday for the campaign opening, where speeches by Mr. Folk and Mr. Bryan were to be published for readers.
A Southeast Texan sermon reframes life as brief and shared by two brothers on earth. It urges kindness in striving for place and wealth, condemns fortunes built on others’ grief or dishonesty, and counsels elevating energy and power toward true success.
State and others face a long docket of cases including grand larceny concealed weapons murder burglary and multiple divorces changes of venue and ejectment actions. Notable items include State v James and James murder and several change of venue suits. The docket also lists partition quit title and damages actions plus license and tax matters.
A detailed program for the County Teachers Association lists sessions from 10:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. and 1:00 P.M. to 3:30 P.M. including organizational talks, educational exhibits, papers on history and geography, model lessons, round-table discussions, and receptions. Notable presenters include Miss Daisy Burford Miss Mae Grant Miss Lulu Dunlap and Rufus Zimmerman among others. The event features state department representatives, a county board member, and a series of instructional demonstrations and lectures.

Last Sunday at 9 30 a.m. Miss Lillie May Kurre wed Robert Lee Cook with Rev E Miller officiating. Kurre long time resident with uncle T B Drum. Cook praised for character. Ceremony followed by church service and dinner. Couple departed Monday.
A report notes a young couple’s morning trip to St. Louis to visit the World’s Fair followed by their return to Patton to reside. A long list of relatives and friends attends the event, but space limits publication. Wishing the couple happiness.
Southeast Missouri reports a Cape Girardeau rear fire at the Riverview hotel, with Dexter Oran Cape Girardeau fairs set for October, and Caruthersville dates. A Farmington murder verdict for O P McCarver is noted, plus Piedmont post office burglaries and Sikeston GOP nominating Joe W Moore to oppose Joe Farris.
Our correspondents report farmers plowing and preparing land for wheat. Rev. Baker with Rev. Lincoln preached at Locust Grove to an appreciative congregation. Miss Nellie Huskey was on the sick list last week. Miss Jeffie Trendrix, visiting here, returns to Indian Territory. Mrs C M Lessley and Ava accompany her to St. Louis to visit the fair. May Huskey, teaching in Johnson district, visited her parents. Charles Ramsey sick with dysentery last week but now out. John Cash seriously ill with typhoid fever. Mrs Louis Kaiser visited relatives in Perry County recently.
A mother left her eldest son Oscar with his grandfather to attend a German school. Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Dale of Lutesville visited Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Sluskey on Sunday, Amier Ros.
The district reports typhoid fever cases including Mrs Loose in Reed and Mrs Beatty being very ill. Several teachers are noted for upcoming terms such as Nora Rowe in Wayne county, Lovie Grimsley at Rock Point, Mattie Baker in Kelch, Ella Fish at Love Grove, and Miss Fish described as a successful teacher. Land transfers, farm improvements by Grimsley and Kirkpatrick, a new baby for Mr and Mrs Gobble, and various travels and small town updates are listed alongside a recent rain.
The Kid reports St Francois Baptist Association held a successful meeting with Miller's chapel last week. Attendees included Revs Jenkins Daviault Stovall and Dr A J Mayfield and wife joined by Rev Rudolph of Oran. College hill sees students arriving as President Hendershot stays busy. A theological class is planned. The Loyal Temperance Legion promotes temperance among town youth.
Rev F Bettels spent a few days in St Louis returning Friday. Win Schmitt will attend Will Mayfield College. Messrs Theo Holzum and J Vanderen inspected the Clover district near Laflin last week and plan to run their bullet there. F Brands is visiting the World's Fair this week. H Smith painted church windows last week. Miss Lina Florink is ill. Henry Berry who was injured at Laflin and laid up, visited Leopold last Thursday. Mrs J Lawrence is sick in bed this week. Threshing machines found their sheds last week as farmers begin preparations.

Peter Peak’s health, Adolphus Limbaugh visiting from Colorado, Zimmermans at the Great Fair, Mrs Hope Bess visiting relatives, and Marion Drum’s family returning to their farm. Local option law praised for reducing whisky, school opens with Rufus Zimmerman teaching, Whitener reunion planned at Marquand, Della Rhodes visiting, farmers ready for wheat, and support for Folk and honest government.
