Special to the Press from Brownwood reports Pionder steam works operating at half capacity and likely to shut down at month’s end. About 100 workers will lose employment. whether the suspension is temporary or permanent remains unclear.
F A Stanton completes stave factory relocation to new quarters. In operation about a week the plant features better buildings and better arranged machinery. The boiler and engine capacity were increased and furnaces are now running. About twenty men and boys are employed, with roughly 600 cords of bolts on hand and uninterrupted work.
A detailed description of Sheriff J T Wells new home in the Twin Cities notes its builders and plasterer. The two story residence features a parlor, family room, dining room, kitchen, porches, two bedrooms and a dormitory over dining and kitchen, with a double portico at the front.
Jonathan Marion Cofer died last Tuesday at 4 10 p m of typhoid fever in the place at 37 years of age. Survived by wife and son Charles. Interred in Baptist cemetery yesterday at 4 p m. He was a leading local businessman and former traveler for Houston Meeks Grocery Co. of St Louis. Member of Masonic Lodge.
Special report from Schepperville states John Castator died at his home at 3 AM from heart disease after appearing well the day before while attending to farm duties. Local obituary notes his age and surviving family.
Elmer E. Bair starts ground stone and brick work for a new barber shop beside the Smith-Witmet block on High Street. The planned building is described as neat and substantial.
Rev. O. M. Martin will lecture at Latesville on January 18 1894 on the subject Talk, Wise and Otherwise. Mr. Martin is a cultivated scholarly gentleman and his lecture will be worth hearing. Admission 25 cents.
Dr J R Talley yesterday deeded a local farm to A Mitchell in exchange for Mitchells farm in Wright County Missouri. Talley plans to move to Wright County in the coming months.
The A O U W lodge of Lutesville held a grand supper for members and families at its hall on Wednesday night of Christmas week. A large crowd attended and oyster stews were prepared by A Mayer with 175 servings served. The evening was pleasant and well attended.
The Lutesville onyx company on Tuesday received a large derrick and other machinery for use in their quarries at Lutesville. The editor has not yet interviewed the superintendent about the scale of planned operations.
W. T. Wilson and his family have relocated to Cape Girardeau and plan to establish their home there going forward.

Justice Bowman's court handled two liquor selling without license charges against Dr McAnally in Laflin and an appeal to the circuit court. Disturbing the peace fines were imposed on Wilkinson and associates in Glen Allen, with additional guilty pleas for concealed weapons. Other outcomes include a $7.50 fine for George Kauffman after assaulting William Kinder and a jury conviction with $5 fine for Allen B Clippard for shooting on a public road.
About fifty young men have mysteriously disappeared in Oak Viper. Rumors target William Hayes the local post master amid circuit court in Jackson. The community expects a grand jury probe into alleged illegal activity as speculation runs high.

Brownwood residents recount a daring rescue when engineer Shipley Drew of the St. Louis C. G. & FS. railway halted a passing train and, by reaching from the pilot, saved a small baby found on the track. The child belonged to a humble family two and a half miles away. the parents were later arrested at Cape Girardeau, the circumstances of the child's presence on the track remain a mystery.

Miller & Co operate a first class saw mill with modern equipment and a corn mill for custom grinding, supporting local farming and timbered land rich in future potential across the swamps and bottom lands stretching toward Zalma.
